OIL BARRELS & DRUMS

Discussion in 'The Antiquated' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Nov 9, 2020.

  1. I scored this unusual oil barrel yesterday, it's riveted together is pretty darn heavy but I thought it 's cool, it has a brass plate stating it's Standard oil and the patent date is June 3, 1902. HRP

  3. @HOTRODPRIMER i got a few of those at work we still use for different hydraulic and trans fluids, I picked them up years ago from a farm auction for next to nothing rusty n smelling like horse apples but still functional.

that barrel is really cool, a steel oil barrel shaped like a barrel.
Is it still water tight ?

  4. yes sir, the barrel still has some oil in it. HRP

Baltimore was a big manufacturing city at the turn of the century.

Remember mayor Willie Don? Wanted to call Baltimore the city that reads. Now just known as Charm city... For obvious reasons!

Man, this thread went off the rails in a hurry! Let’s get it back on track. Found a Schaeffer oil barrel at a swap meet a couple years ago. Couldn’t get the $5 out of my pocket fast enough. Don’t have a picture of mine, but it looks just like this one.

Speaking of rats . Growing up my Dad and GreatGrandFather would slide a hose on the tailpipe of GreatGrandFather’s 59 Chevy pickup and poke it into a crack in the foundation of the chicken house . Start up the pickup , pull out the choke a bit then go inside and wait for the gassed rats to come staggering out . We would whack them with shovels. Great fun lol
