That must have been early on in the war when fears of Japanese invasion were rampant note that the woodies are still in civilian colours, not Olive drab as a military vehicle would be

All these photo's kind of hint at why woodies were so popular in California after they were decommissioned from service the surfing community had the ideal mode of transportation and it appears there were plenty to choose from. HRP

Some are different. Wonder what they were. The hood shape on the 2nd and 3rd ones in on the bottom looks like KB International, although I have never seen an International woody

Thank you guys for all the additional information. I've had the original wire photo from the Los Angeles Examiner for at least 30 years and wasn't aware of all that you added. Thanx again!

Well, geez, sorry to be an embarrassment to the hamb :), but yes its an interesting article here http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/c/cantrell/cantrell.htm . the first hit for cantrell bodies is about dead babies found at the cantrell mortuary, that may be an interesting read too !

Wish today's Hollywood stars were as patriotic as those in WW II.

I'm wondering if that's all "Govt. Speak" for the Calif. relocation and internment of Japanese-Americans during the early years of the war

  26. I would love to find those in a big forgotten military warehouse!

  27. Sorry - should have included "truck" Cantrell Truck bodies - really hope you didn't have any bad dreams.
