It's a 20 footer. Hopefully it will be a 10 footer once it's cut and buffed. At least it's not gray primer anymore.

Thanks. I'm at the "It's good enough" point on it. Still planning to have the 60's Gas Class lettering, and some pinstriping done to complete it.

  4. 50Pontiacgrillepolished4_21.jpg 50pontgrille.jpg Did some more polishing and cleaning the grille in my 50 Pontiac coupe. Still need to finish the bumper and guards . 50pontgrille.jpg

Removed bumper guards and polished the grille/bumper

  5. Did a little more filling of the fender and inner panel where I wacked it out to fit the grille. At least till the welder bit the dust. Looks like I need to extend the lower edge of the hood a little. Next project lower the right hood hinge and fender. Hopefully by then the Amazon fairy will have dropped off a new Lincoln 140 at my friend's house. I thought I might bring one of my welders up here; but didn't want to have to change the plug. Nothing too exciting but shortened my e- brake lever to clear the stock fuel tank under the 26 T touring I'm putting on an A frame. You can see the height difference compared to the stock one next to it. IMG_20210419_205102424.jpg

For once I spent some time on "MY CAR"
Got my dragster pulled out so I can dive into the engine and see what it is made of. Don't know much about what's inside and thought that being I plan on driving it I wanted to know how low in the seat I will need to be. :D

Set seat in cab and guessed on the size of wedge to make sit right. Made some wedges out of 2x4's. Took truck for a short drive to see how it was- It seems good, so now I have to mount permanently with steel. Bad thing was truck quit in town and had to get towed back thru town with a tow rope and buddies chebby pick up, how embarrassing ! IMG_3232.JPG

Finished firewall/tunnel massaging with a rubber covered BFH to allow fitment of period correct RC Ind bellhousing (Scattershield). I had some paint matched before I repainted reworked areas. Engine reinstalled and now reassembly time with newly coated headers and collectors. Next thing is to make and reroute new brake lines. 177378945_322277912641783_8752889990660240379_n.jpg

Replaced the driveshaft u-joints on my '53 Ford. I hate replacing u-joints...

No pics, but lots of cursing:mad:

Tourettes syndrome has nothing to do with cursing aside from people with Tourettes who can't get a date in Adam Sandler movies.

It's more that I always sucked at the Operation game and I feel that replacing u-joints it the same skill set. Those damn needle bearings are way too sensitive and don't get me started on the pain in the ass inner c-clips. I launched one across the garage that is still MIA.

Okay, I think I've mentioned somewhere that I was building a grille for my '27. I actually got it back from the powder coaters and it came out looking like I had imagined it. A small triumph but right now, I need all the positive I can get. 20210416_143107.jpg 20210424_093946.jpg First pic is after welding and cleaning up the ends. Second is after powdercoat.

Looking good but I've got a question. Are you planning to add box plates to the bottom of the original crossmember on both sides of your new channel section?

The plan is to use some 1/4 or 5/16 plate and make a semi - circle and tie it to the original crossmember and to the piece of tubing . Then I can cut that out for the pipe to clear. Like you noticed it will need something to keep it from bending in the center of that channel I added. The crossmember will also carry the driveshaft loop . I have a piece of 1 in. channel tacked across the top now as a stiffener will I work it all out. I could also weld a couple pieces of flat stock turned on edge across the top , good observation though ! Thanks

20210427 Jack chassis for 34 5 W Jack started 29 yrs ago and passed to Tommy.JPG
Actually it was yesterday but hope its okay. I drove over to jacksanddeuces to see what he was up to.
I promised not to tell anyone he was actually working on something other than a 32!:D Turns out he's gotten back a chassis he started on 29 years ago for a 34 coupe. He's tweaking the chopped 5W body, too... and doing a great job!! His usual work.:)

Got my steering joint in the mail today looks like I'm going to have to drop the bottom of the steering column an inch or so to get it to line up enough.

    Had some disassembly.

Found a broken compression ring and a backwards rod. Good news as 95% can be reused. Looks like some new bearings (just because I have it open), new timing set, and exhaust valves, valve job, guides and hardened seats.

    20210419_223713.jpg

I'll polish the crank. Exhaust valves are all worn, and surprisingly hardened seats have never been installed. I'm not going to run a lead additive.

    From the BillyBob Shop log

May 5th 2021 When the engine hoist broke, I sidetracked into a lazy streak for a couple of weeks but I think I'm back on track now. Onward to the nailhead derusting ops. The water was drained and replaced with twenty gallons of Evapo-Rust for the waterjacket derusting. Since I didn't have the quantity needed to completely submerge the block, the operation has to be a two-step dance, front half first, then the rear half of the block, two days in the soup for each. Beer of the day was Bent River Brewing Company's Undercurrent IPA.
