At 18 and having Anthony for a father I bet this is not his first project.

Safe travels. Enjoy the time spent with Your Son on the road and turning wrenches.

That looks like a GREAT father/son project. Very simple and easy to work on. I have an original 1953 Willys CJ3B and have acquired some ad on stuff like a PTO and I am looking for a 3pt. rear lift assembly.
Dave Deilers runs a great website at www.ewillys.com that will open you up to all things Willys. Have fun

  11. Jeeps are a blast! Most fun I’ve had on four wheels.
Too bad I’m not closer, I like that flat bed too.

  12. Nothing better than a Father-Son( and now grandson) road trip to retrieve a new project. Lately it seems that every other weekend Dad, Chandler, and I are hauling a new project for my Nephew or my son(Chandler). In the last six weeks, we have hauled 4 old Ford Trucks. Sadly, none are H.A.M.B. friendly. Lots of diesel burned.

  13. We got it.
    It’s rough as a cobb
It’s was cheap though and the kid likes it. It’s worth the cash just for a learning experience.

  14. Holy crap what a trip.
We made it back at 4am this morning.
Shower and a nap. Back at it.
He has a track meet and I have a student performing at a competition.
I guess I better get going.

  16. Nothing like a good 2 hours sleep in 2 days.
Anyway, this thing is a mess. No floor, holes everywhere else, engine seized, at least one wheel isn’t rotted. It does have lock out hubs and rolls.
frame needs repair, leaf springs rotted, t-case is stuck.
The grill is decent and one fender might still bolt up.
    Kids and dreams.
    We shall see

  19. The block didn’t have water in it and the bores are clean.
But I do have a Stude six that might bolt up.

My 13 year old is saving money to buy his first vehicle. He has wanted a Jeep to restore for the last few years. I figured next year we’ll start looking, unless I run across a smoking deal before then.
Good luck! Looks like a great starting point.

  21. Well. It looks good in the pictures. I’ll post some honest ones hopefully today. Luckily the kid doesn’t want a resto. He wants a functional woods/adventure jeep. Wants to keep the driveline as stock as possible.
He sold his weight lifting equipment to buy this. He’s been looking for one for close to a year and this $400 pile was the one that fit the budget.

I started my Grandson at about two years old counting the red cars and blue ones in magazines. At 15 he now sends pictures of what he sees for the day in his travels. Yesterday we went to a cars and coffee and he had to tell me the names of quite a few cars I have never seen before. Saw my first McClaren 570. Interest takes all shapes.

  23. The guy that had it built 5 or 6 new crossmembers for the floor. Did a good job.
I told the kids we’d start by bolting the sheet metal up and aligning and square the frame.
Rebuild the cowl and the one mount that’s rotted for the grill.
Start hammering and welding the fenders.
    Then start bending new metal.
He’s got to clean up a spot for it in the shop.
The price for the jeep is almost worth the cleanup effort to get it in the building. :)

  25. The frame was 1 1/2 out of level side to side. A floor jack and a fat dad got that within 1/4.
    The shackles are interesting.
