Any of you guys have pictures of how or what you used to mount the rear of the transmission when installing a SBC in a 40 Ford coupe. I am using a 3 speed muncie trans but any applications will help. Thanks.

My go to for any build for a trans crossmember is either 1.5" round or box tubing. I make pie cuts in the tube to make any offsets up or down, and then weld the tube at those cuts. I position the trans where I want it, and measure off the floor to the trans mounting pad, then to the point on the frame to determine offset. A flat pad welded on one side to mount it is all I use.
Usually I can fabricate a trans crossmember in an hour or so with no trouble. I make the ends a bolt on design so the crossmember can be removed if needed for trans pulling.

Speedway motors has a rear mount for the early Fords part #9161940 for 350 turbo, I think it would work for your manual transmission, or you could make your own similar set up.;)
There is a little more work because you need to cut the wishbones and attach new ends that mate with the mounting plate when eliminating the enclosed drive shaft, if your keeping the original rear end with open driveshaft conversion

Here's a picture of a simple mount my friend made. It's 2" by 3/8 flat bar that sits on the crossmember flange. 14" on the long side, and 12-1/2 on the short side. Couple tabs welded on to allow you to bolt in from side.

    This is what we use. Just drill the stock rivets out to 3/8" and bolt them in. 87ed96bc5b4f93953ccf98734f3b4bff (1) (1) (3).jpg 26a55560ae34515169ce00caab98d842 (1) (3).jpg 20161030_145043 (1) (1) (1) (3).jpg 20161030_145649 (3).jpg

I have also used the Chassis Engineering kit on several 1940’s. Works good

After 1965 (I think) Saginaw, and Muncie 3 speed transmissions are syncro to 1st gear. Are you going to retain the early Ford column shift? Please post your experiences building shift linkage.

Still on the fence about the early column shift, I have a saginaw 4 speed that I might use and if I do, well you know. Thanks for the interest.
