Thanks for posting the road trip story, especially with family - 9 of my grandkids live in Georgia, did 66 CA-OK in 2017 on the way to see them - now that my 51 is done I'm going to have to make that trip again the old fashioned way

I’ve seen it advertised but we haven’t made there yet. Eventually we’ll get there.

The car museum in Russel off Route 66 is in the Texas New Mexico boarder. Another one that is you blink you will miss it. It is well worth the visit and plus it is free and open 24 hrs! IMG_5802.JPG IMG_5800.JPG

We’ll that’s all there is. It was definitely a fun trip. Definitely not cheap but was sure fun! . There was also plenty of Muscle car stuff as well for those of us that dabble in the mid to late 60’s stuff. .

  22. The last group of pics from New Mexico are not "in Russell", they are at Russell's Truck Stop. The owner has a large collection and the cars on display are swapped out occasionally. Russell's is at the most eastward exit on NM I 40.
The museum in Santa Rosa is owned by a great NM builder who goes by the name "Bozo". I met him 2 weeks ago at the museum and he gave me a guided tour. We got talking right away when I pulled up in my '57. They are doing their annual car show in late September...the 25th??. He's going to send me a packet of flyers for the show so I can pass them out in Amarillo. He has a large shop about a mile from the museum, on the opposite side of the !40 loop where he does his car building, as well as a normal repair shop. A year or two one of the Hambers did a post about how his guys got his Rambler(?) repaired and on the road again in short order. I told Bozo if I had a pick of anything in his museum, I'd be going home with the California Kid clone towed behind that awesome COE that I'm surprised you didn't post a pic of. Maybe because the drivetrain would make it OT? The guy behind my '57 is Bozo.
Thanks for the pics and sharing that great road trip with us! IMG_3030.JPG IMG_3033.JPG

Had a good ole boy tell me years ago that “you don’t want to be that old guy sitting in his wheelchair in a nursing home watching a Sunday morning car show saying to himself, Gee, I wish I had done that”

Texas57, thank you for the clarification. Yes Russel’s is a truck stop and not a town. It was late at night when we went through there but there are plenty of signs from the East and west telling you it is coming up.
“Bozo” is a really nice guy. We’ve met both him and his wife at the museum.
We met Bozo a few years ago after losing a trailer tire about 9 miles west of Santa Rosa. We pulled into his shop and of all the tire places on hwy 40 (and we have been to a lot of them) he is the only one to get the tire changed quick and didn’t charge us an over inflated price which was nice.
As a side not while we were sitting in his office paying for the tire my older son started noticing all the 57 Chevy specific stuff on his shelf and that sparked a conversation that led to “you should check out my museum.” Great people!

Wow-what a glorious trip! Thanks for sharing that comment about Joe’s Speed Shop. Haven't heard about it but sounds like a great shop!

These are all a bunch of great pics. But this '60 Bonneville has to be one of the most bad-ass four door cars I've ever seen. What a great trip you guys had. Good on you Dad.

I had had Joe drop an axle from my 31 roadster about 12 yrs ago. I needed another dropped and one straightened and drilled. Not knowing if Joe was still doing them I had talked to Sid’s. As it turns out they are pretty close to each other and Joe does the early axles and Sid does the 37 and later.

I visited Russell's Truck Stop back in 2018 when we were on the Hudson road trip. Checked out the Museum and had lunch there. Also visited Bozo's museum in 2009 and again in 2018. Both worthwhile stops.
