Art & Inspiration ANYONE USING TRIM RINGS ON YOUR WHEELS?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Apr 21, 2021.

  1. I moved one of my roll around tool boxes in the shop this afternoon and found a dusty box from Bob Drake that had 4 brand new trim rings, after seeing them I remember buying them for the Ranch Wagon but Brenda didn't want to use them, her reasoning was when here Grandmother Jessie bought the wagon from Blue Ridge Ford it only had the dog dish hub caps.

I have trim rings on my old beater and I think they look good.

My question are trim rings like Moon Disc were you ether like them or you don't. HRP

I currently have 2 cars with black wheels and caps. my 40 has caps and rings, I am in the process of replacing the Indy style pin drive knockoff wheels on my roadster with black 16 & 18 inch steelies and I have caps and rings for them. There's the old saying once you do rings you can't go back, so you better be dam sure you like them.

  4. I hear you Gary, once you scratch up your wheel adding trim rings you cant go back, well you can but the wheel will look bad. HRP

  5. I've always liked trim rings and any car that I put "baby moons" on also had to have the rings... 20210329_090622.jpg

  6. I like 'em both ways....... IMG_0287-vi.jpg 18814792_712939035576889_2830503049825111466_o.jpg 20190925_073621.jpg FB_IMG_1571442492853.jpg 20171112_180732.jpg 044-vi (1) (1).jpg

I put trim rings on my avatar. They looked really neat, but after a year the chrome had rusted (despite being kept clean and stored under cover). I polished the rust out, but once the chrome is broken the rust returns. Looked into stainless rings, but couldn't find any locally that covered all the steel of the wheel - most left the very outer rim exposed.

Ended up ditching the rings and went to a set of Moon disks.

Being stupid, I did the same thing on my daughters ute and fitted trim rings. They too have rust blotches.

    Cheers,
    Harv

I had baby moons ,black wheels on my 27 roadster and thought it looked plain so I put a cheap set of K-mart rings on it to dress it up to sell.
I liked the look so much I took the car off the market and kept it another year!

    My vote
    trim rings - yes
    factory poverty caps - yes
    blank baby moons - no

I like thin trim rings and no cap, weird huh.

  10. They worked on the 4 door highboy. HRP

I'm thinking about caps and rings as an option to the other caps I have but as I am running full caps most of the time the rings aren't going to cause extra damage to the wheels. I've got a set of NOS in the box baby moons and part of a set of ?? small caps with a bow tie in the middle of a black ring.

I'm contemplating running them on my 46 Olds since I'm going with slightly bigger steelies and NOS hubcaps.

A lot of my rods over the years have had steel wheels, cap, and ALWAYS trim rings. Just the caps without trim rings makes a car look like a "Standard"...add rings and it's a "DeLuxe" 32e.jpg 36 p2.jpg 39pu.jpg 46sd.jpg

Yep, everything either gets 40 caps and ribbed rings or magnesium/aluminum slots. There are no other options.

I like them but you get to decide once if you want them. Then, they are yours until you're ready to repaint your wheels. This car had Cragar S/S's when I bought it. The first thing I did was change wheels and tires. 1021191139.jpg

That wagon looks great, much better than with the cragar's I'm sure.

I've been thinking about throwing bm's on this thing too... Can't decide.

Most '40s - '50s outfits wear them well. Later, not so much. Me & Fannie Mae 1998.JPG
