Customs Steel wheels for my 40 Ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ed Kasperek, Apr 16, 2021.

  1. Looking for 14 & 15 in 5X 5 1/2 wheels . Anyone know of anything that will fit

Trying to avoid the "big dollar" versions at the classic wheel & tire sellers

I think there were 14" 5.5 bp wheels on Chryslers and maybe Lincolns way back when. 14" tires are a little tough to find. Little 15" tires are easier. Big and little 15" is usually the way to go. What will they be going on?

And, if you don't care about your 40 hubcaps, ford 1/2 ton wheels way into the 80's

Can't say the year but 15 x 5-1/2 off a Ford F100 early 70's I think. And I would use the one that I hadn't cleaned up and painted the inside of the wheel on back a few months ago. IMG_1046.JPG IMG_1048.JPG

Yeah, really, ford used the 5 on 5 ana half for about 6 decades. it comes down to what hubcaps you want, or what off set

No idea what a button cap is. We refer to the cap mounts as "innie", or "outie" . your 40 caps mount on bumps on the inside of the hub center, same innie bumps to 66 on pickups, after that they are outies, bump to hold the cap on the outside. trim rings generally fit on any rim the correct diameter. why not tell us what you want to do, and the answer may be simple

Feel free to throw lug nuts at me if I'm off a bit here, but 58 thru I think 60 Lincoln were 14". Weird, I know, but in my youth dear ol Dad always wanted to run 14" wheels on this 1 truck, and we got them off of a 59 Lincoln, the big fuckers, got 2 from that one and 1 and a spare from another. The yard was in Taylor, MI, Hiway Auto Parts. I was maybe 12 when he did this and helped him at the scrap yard to get the wheels. Come to think of it, now I have to open my Hollander and see. You guys...o_O

Interesting, I have a 14'" smoothie and I never knew what it came off of. Not very wide though, still has a rotten old tire on it

  20. OK My "button caps" and your "innies" are the same. Mounts to the bumps on inside of hub center.

Ok, here it is from my 55-65 Hollander interchange manual:

Heres a list of sort for 5 1/2 bolt circle wheels, even as small as 13"
