With permission from the OP, I'm posting some pics of my engine and trans, he's interested in.
Both of us are fairly green when it comes to Flatheads, so I thought it best to let some more experienced eyes render a verdict.
I don't want to unintentionally misrepresent anything, and it gives him some peace of mind.
Pretty sure the engine is a '42, 221ci.
    3.0625 bore, 3.75 stroke
    Spins freely by hand.
Only pulled one head, but no visible cracks, and the bores look good, other than carbon build up.
Never got around to pulling the other head, or the pan, to check for cracks.

'39-'48 3 speed. Some light surface rust, but no pitting.
Gear teeth look good, not sure how to check for shaft slop.

Ok so still parts collecting. Got a flathead and 39 trans from a guy here on the hamb. Also recently ordered a drop axle setup with spring. It is on back order but should be on its way soon.

Nice! You’re making quick progress seems like. I think we’re on the same track, just I’m 6 months behind you. Pretty small pile of parts so far, but I’m surprised at how many of Henry’s original parts are still out there almost 100 years later. The hunt is half the fun! Hope the flathead works out well for you.

Yup me too. I actually gave a nice 302 that was the original plan but could not get the flathead idea out if my head. Especially the more I get into this and look at other cars.

Finished boxing a few weeks ago. Just now throwing pics up.i didn't go all the way to front crossmember. Cuz I know motor mounts are going to sit in there.

Bought a rear spring. Gonna start cleaning the rear-end up and figure out a rear brake set up.

  24. You will want to pressure test that flathead engine before you go to far with it. You can do a simple pressure test with the heads on. You can then confirm whether or not it has internal leaks. If leaks are apparent, then you have to do more to find the source. Some flathead cracks can be fixed. Others not so much.

Yup thats what I've been reading. The plan is to get tires on the ground line the engine and tranny in. Get the motor mounts installed. Then pulling everything back apart and going from there.

Ok guys. Change of plans. When I got into this car I was going with a model a frame. Going to a few car shows throughout the summer ideas change. I have been really drawn to these cars with the 32 bones underneath. Looking into how much a true 32 frame would run I had a buddy of mine build me one. Turned out great and think it better fits what I have planned. Still plan on running the flathead and 39 3 speed that I got . but did install 9 inch rear. I have a 39 rear buggy spring to install yet. I think this set up is more my style.
