The only way I know for fixing a rear main is to replace it.

Part of being a car guy involves buying at least one can of magic cure-all type engine medicine to teach yourself not to do it again .... wonder if they still sell overhaul in a can ?

I believe that the magic works by swelling the rubber seal to allow it to tighten around the crank. I’ve heard of people adding a small amount of brake fluid to accomplish this. Being that your dealing with a rope seal I’m not to sure it’ll do much. And I’ve seen the rebuild in a can on the shelf. It’s usually has a lot of dust on it.

Remind me, did 41's have a rope seal on the back or just a slinger and V groove?

Put some 90 weight in a 55 Ford one time to slow down the rear seal leak. It helped.

  8. Just a slinger; no rear seal on those...
