My thread was deleted from last night for being too new of a subject. My question was about distributors and not the engine it was going on.
So my question was has anybody cut the bottom of one type of distributor and grafted it to the top half of another.I want to use a Chrysler type of ignition on a chevy.
The engine that I have was never made available with a points style ignition. And nobody made one either.Picked up the motor for free.So why not try to put a carb and ignition on it.
Just a question, is a carb intake available for it? I’ve not done what you want to do, but think I’d start with two distributors side by side to get a perspective of what needs to be done.
yes a carbed intake is available. And I did plan on doing a side by side with the two dizzy's.I wanted to know if anybody had done anything like this before that could give some tips.
Saw a hot rod once with a Saturn engine. He had built a manifold for it, got rid of injection and electronic ignition. He had rigged up a belt driven distributor with a toothed type belt (like a blower drive). It even had a mount to enable timing adjustment. Pretty neat I thought. .bjb
I’ve seen pics of distributors that @RichFox has done, maybe he can add some tips for you or PM him for some ideas.
If you mean what I think you mean, I would probably use the stock crank trigger ignition and hide the coils.
People have been modifying distributers for a long as there have ben hot rodders and racers. your only limit is your skill.
If nobody ever asked, "What if," we would still be cave-dwellers who grunt to communicate. I would ask, however, will your end product be an improvement over what you already have.
What I currently have is a few hundred pounds of scrap metal sitting in my driveway that will not do anything without a bunch of electric wizbangs hooked to it.The end result I am hoping for is an engine that will start and run.
After measuring things I will have enough length on the chevy points unit to graft the drive gear and bottom of the electronic unit together.
That’s great,,,,,,points work just fine as well . I think some are afraid of using points,,,,,because they don’t really understand the settings . The exact same way that a lot of guys can’t adjust solid lifters . They are adjusting them every couple of weeks,,,,,nothing wears that bad,,,,,or the rockers don’t move that much out of adjustment. Anyway,,,,,,,very pleased about the points setup . Tommy
