Humidity/water damaged

 

So, my children decided Jennifer and I needed to take the vacation we put off in 1994 ( 7th anniversary gift) because she decided to go from the fear of never having children to knocking out 4 blessings between June of '94 and April of '98. Treat them well folks, you might getr an all expense paid trip to Hawaii... We fly over next week!

New stuff... '64 Chevy truck. Drawing taken from a stocker I drew on Sunday from GM DAY (one of two events I attended that day);



The chain-drive is a very early Buick



This mahogany hauler had one of the first dual- quad 'Vette 283's found in Sydney, back in '59/60. Aussies did not get the SBC until 1960, when the small number of Chevys sold carried the base 283. The Y-block was king in Australia, so this was a pretty flash deal. All the original 'Vette fittings are still intact and present. Still haulin' arse in 2015, when this was painted, in acrylic (at a Powerboat festival in Goolwa).
It was a neat show.

Some of the race cars I've lettered for my good friend John Morton of Adrian Michigan. John owned Continental Services(now owned by his son Jeff)when I painted these.I will also say that all of these cars have been raced on the dirt tracks around here.John occasionally drives them but they are mostly handled by his son Jeff and Jeff's daughter's are the pit crew and very knowledgeable about the cars.
One note: the blue #6 car you might notice has two different grilles in it.One I painted on because the real one wasn't ready and it was going to a show.. Hope you enjoy them.

Hello,

It was a very cold morning along the coast. I could see the San Gabriel/San Bernardino mountain range in the horizon, even from the beach. It had just rained for several days and with the cold weather, had left some snow on the local mountains. In So Cal, if you catch the snow on the mountains, that is great. Soon the local sunny weather starts the process of melting the snow and out to the ocean, the runoff goes.

As part of photo shoot in an empty lot on a hillside above some industrial buildings, it gave me a great clear photograph of the hot rods/motorcycles in attendance. But, did I mention that it is hard to take photographs and focus with gloves on your fingers? It was cold to say the least.

It was one of the first times I had used a new 2.25 x 2.25 twin lens reflex camera and I wanted plenty of color photos for a possible cover or the centerspread layout in the magazines. It was a great background day, colorful hot rods and the weather was just perfect.

So, what happened to the color photo? It did not make the cover or centerspread, despite the colorful scene and great looking custom 1938-39 Chevy sedan.

This photo is the last 2.25 x 2.25 digital copy of the Ektachrome color slide that I had left. I gave all of the remaining slides and b/w photos to the owner as a way to thank him and my disappointment of not getting the photos published.

These are a few pieces of leather work that I've done lately. The tank I did not paint but the picture was sent to me so I could try and make a seat to go with it. I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with. Thanks for looking!

 

I have to admit that I don't have every issue of Street Rodder in which they used my cartoons, so sometimes I post the original artwork (they would send it back to me most of the time). After sitting in my portfolio for 40 or so years, a lot of the original artwork got damaged...but I post it anyway.
Then, along comes @quick85, and using his mad editing skills, voluntarily "cleans up " 40 years of my neglect. I can't thank you enough Mitch.

It happens to all of us. don't take it too personally. I know how frustrating it feels. Sorry I missed the post, just hit us up with some other good stuff!
