I decided to play it safe. 97F3A938-83AE-4569-A653-256BB03039DC.jpeg F8D5A814-027C-4488-864C-845175BF706B.jpeg

  4. Done, and now, no worries about clearance. You can add a bumpstop to the inside of frame rail, if you like.

The center section of the rear end will hit the floor pan before the frame.

Thanks. It’s not going to be a show car so it’s not perfect. I just want a nice semi traditional car that’s dependable.

I am trying to make it a “roller”. Things are headed that way. Possibly soon. 03F6BCC5-7DF8-4147-BFF9-BB4A23FA506E.jpeg BBA7F75C-0CDB-483B-8571-10D2489C6B7D.jpeg

Blasted and epoxy primed. Does this make my rear end look fat? 20B8E9B0-7EAD-4E07-8883-51D3A8FFCE3B.jpeg

  17. I’m really enjoying your build. Thanks for sharing it. I do have a question though. Looking at the rear end at the leaf springs in this pic. What will keep the axle from rotating in the cradles over time? I had this happen in a truck with a flip kit where the cradles weren’t tall enough to contact the original spring seats.

After I assemble the body on to the frame and build a driveshaft, I will then set the pinion angle and weld the cradles onto the housing. There isnt a way to know the pinion angle with the springs unloaded

Your '40 was about the same condition as my '39 Chev coupe when I bought mine in April 2019. I just painted mine recently after building it for the last two years. I had 6 months of replacing metal in the lower 4" of my body too, and all pretty similar to where yours was rotted out. Only good metal down low on mine was the trunk pan. Not perfect, but fairly solid.
Enjoying your progress, and the whole build!

Cleaned up the 283 this week. Going to try to get it back in the car next week and figure out the cross member. 7F7D9539-CB8B-44CA-8DEA-81FABFE2C813.jpeg FB458652-D76B-407D-89A7-04ED0CDA7E00.jpeg 83BB6558-6868-4EA2-823A-989B9E325474.jpeg D0405C9A-748B-4D69-8D15-86929322D6EB.jpeg

I know its been mentioned here by me and others. That looks like one
of those cheapo motor stands from the local import tool outfit.
It appears to already have a bit of a lean. Please be aware that those
have been known to suddenly fail. Even with a moderate weight
motor like that Chevy. It would be prudent to consider a support of some sort at the front of the motor. Would not like to hear of an issue to you
or your project which I have been enjoying observing.

Early Chevell manifolds fit on the left side and clears the stock box like they were made for the swap

I tend to try and use what I got. Fitting the pipe was not as bad as I thought it would be
