Have been searching for water outlet thermostat housing for this Early Offy 5029 Pontiac 2x4 manifold. Ebay doesn't show any. Any Hamber know where they may be available? JOHN
Have you looked into a factory inlet that fits that manifold???? The bolt pattern looks somewhat familiar.... I could be wrong....
Google search for pic got this Olds one. I'm not familiar with early Pontiacs to know if bolt and bypass spacing same. Look at a gasket at NAPA. https://www.opgi.com/cooling-heatin...64-76-cutlass-formed-bypass-hose-c241353.html
I wonder if Offy made a special one for this manifold. I looked at the factory pontiac water outlets on rock auto and they don't have a bypass built in. Did you check with offenhauser? they still produce almost everything they ever made.
I think that Offy manifold fits ‘55-‘60 engines. The screen shots I posted show the only Pontiac manifold I’m aware of that takes that thermostat housing.
I've got a 60 or 61 3x2 pontiac factory intake laying around somewhere and it seems that it used the same neck too. Of course my intake is missing it too. I wonder if 1 of the pontiac restorers make a repo ?
AFAIK the ‘60 Tri Power thermostat housing is unobtanium, not repro’ed. @mantuajohn , could you put a plug in that hole and substitute a housing?
Thanks to all who responded. Tried to contact Offy but no reply. Ford gasket is wrong size. I thought it would be easy to find one. Stupid part. JOHN
Not quite close enough? Maybe a little welding ? Not cheap !! https://www.carid.com/qrp/engine-coolant-thermostat-housing-mpn-gbc0555.html?singleid=172301349
I think I would make a spacer out of 1/2" or 3/8"aluminum. bore a proper size hole to hold the T stat against the manifold, drill 2 holes for the water outlet to bolt through it ,and drill and pipe tap for a heater hose nipple for the bypass hose. round off all the corners etc so it doesn't look billet. find a normal water outlet to fit and done....
well not that this helps but im going threw the same issue now. i found a 59 water neck which will work. my issue is i need to put the alternator on the left side and the neck dumps the hose out in the middle of the alt.
This picture of the housing, might help you finding one. Just had a look through a 87 Offy catalogue and it does not list the housing for the 5162 manifold.
Ames Performance used to sell a reproduction thermostat housing for 1960 and earlier Pontiac tripower manifolds (which would have worked in this application), but it's been discontinued for some time. 1961 and newer Pontiacs didn't have that bypass passage so they won't fit.
i cant seem to get the app to work, so i cant show you pics. but i bought a tripower water neck for a mid 60's gto new for like 35 bucks and going to put a plug in the bypass hole on the intake. matched the housing up and the bolt pattern is the same. looks like its going to work..
