Great thread!, great history! subscribed and excited for updates. I have a 29 roadster body and some mangled deuce rails I have been saving for years. I love seeing the straightening and re-using of original rails. Great work Marty. I have always enjoyed your articles in the magazines when there were magazines. I just found those 2 books of Jims and bought them as well. This thread made my morning!

I’m not using nearly as many old Ford parts (just the firewall and spindles), but I do have a cool old engine! Great stuff, I’m following!

As many times as I have managed to smack my left hand index knuckle with a 4 pound hammer while attempting to drive out rivets, you'd think I'd learn to remember where I laid the vise grips so I wouldn't do that again.

Alan, Vice Grips are a fantastic invention, and great for tightening those knurled Allen bolts. BTW, I only use a 3 lb hammer, a little safer that way.

I just found this while on a search to expand my "watched thread" list. I can't do the big page often. are you going to re-rivet the cross members? I'm up for learning how to do that. This looks good and I loved the Olds in my '38 coupe way back in '62. The rear ends and trannys not so much.

Jack Greiner's roadster is my favorite '32 ever!

Yes, they are. BTW, the striking force of a 3# or a 4# hammer figures out to roughly 10,000 - 11,000 PSI. Which ever one you use, you gotta be tough!:eek::oops:;)

Ok, I've just been here a few minutes and the conversation has already covered every tool I own a monkey wrench, a cheater bar, crescent wrench, vise-grips, a punch, and a hammer. I do have a couple of different sizes of each and about 1/2 roll of duct tape.

My internet access has been rough lately, probably the W-7 I am using, a replacement is in the works. However today, the frame horns from @Weedburner 40, and the correct front crossmember showed up . Progress is on the way. IMG_6688.JPG

  13. Marty if you weld large washers on the end of your punch, you won't hit your hand as often as I used too! ha ha

I got one frame horn fit and tacked on. Starting with making a template of the replacement horn, out of aluminum. It allowed me to layout the zigs and zags, retain the rivet holes in the top of the rail, and replace the nasty on the sides. The other side will be more of a challenge, as the drivers side rail, will require a "pull", to line up at the crossmember. Big end or the pointy end? I don't think washers on the pointy end is going to get you the desired result;)

You'd need an even bigger hammer.

Like this one Tom ? When swing room is limited, I use the 12 -13 hammer, 12 lb head and a 13" handle. IMG_6725.JPG IMG_6726.JPG

Damn Marty, you are tougher than I thought John Henry was killed by a 9 pound hammer but it did shine like silver......

Yeah, like that! I can remember when I could take one with a full length handle, hold it at arm's length, rotate my wrist and touch my nose with the head. It's hard to do with a 4# now.

  27. While I was swinging the heaviest short handled persuader in the tool drawer in tight quarters under a car on short jackstands, with my buddy holding the drift (brave as he was), he said, "ok, when I move my head you hit it". I laughed so hard, I didn't have the energy to swing.

Don't mean to derail your thread Marty...love watching your stuff and progress. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Is there a hammer thread on here there seems to be a lot of information. I always hate it when I touch my nose with a hammer.

The lower flange on the RH frame rail, had a bad, rusty spot, where the K-member is attached, and need repaired. So, I rolled and punched a short section, and got it tacked in place. Now with the rail back in place, I can finish replacement of the driver side frame horn, and bolt in the K-member.
