I'm thinking of hooking up a return line on my '56 Chevy to help with vapor lock/hot start issues before the Texas summer hits hard (it's running a mechanical fuel pump). I'm going to try a 1/2" phenolic spacer first and insulate/reroute the fuel lines to see how that works -- the carb/fuel line is getting too hot after a long run and the fuel line can be routed better. It's a problem that's already rearing its ugly head. I searched this board and the Wix 33041 filter was recommended. I need it to have an orifice. Apparently Wix 33041 is unobtanium from every supplier I've found -- bummer as I prefer Wix products.

Is there another part # someone can provide that functions the same as the Wix 33041? I'd like to tackle this problem soon.

I appreciate that, but I'm looking for one that accepts 3/8" line w/ the orifice. I think that one's 5/16" on the inlet/outlet.

F1ford.. you don’t saw what style intake you have or it’s material. If it has a carb heat crossover you can restrict it also. If not a 3/8” phenolic carb spacer really helps or has for me with every engine I run..

I too have a fun time with vapor lock in my 57 Buick wagon. I would like to add a vapor return line to the system, but it seems that all of the alternative filters Mr. 48 Chevy listed are also made of unobtanium, as none of those have showed up in any of my searches for them. Looking for any potential alternatives or solutions. Running a Carter 2536S 2 bbl carb on the 364 Nailhead. Just yesterday, I stalled during a drive and opened the hood to watch the fuel boil right out of my fuel filter. Not fun.

  9. This is what I found when I realized the 3/8 were unavail through regular scources. It has an orfice insert of around .080 iirc. Pricey but I had no other choice.
NOTE: YOU HAVE TO MOUNT VERTICALLY

and that is a typo on return size, it is actually 1/4"

Thanks! Yes, pricey, but if it works, it's worth it to not have vapor lock stop you in the middle of a drive on a hot day!
How did you make the bracket for vertical installation?
