That just looks right ....style of the radical chop , along with the stance and choice of parts ,accessories and colors that complement each other in bringing the total package to one wild ..nasty..period correct looking Hot Rod......wait...yyaaa..it even sounds nasty.
    Cool...

  7. Started this build a while back, getting back on it. Can you figure out what famous 32 Roadster I’m building just by the details in these pics? And it won’t be an exact replica, more like a “tribute” to the real one as it won’t be exactly like it. IMG_1651.JPG IMG_1652.JPG

@Dan Hay, great looking hot rod! The stance and wheels, plus that Olds (Cadillac not) motor is a hit! I haven't seen that one used in a while. Perfect.

Paint! Finally got some color on the 1:16 brass FED. I spent the last couple of days searching the best way to paint brass to get a candy red, possibly a nice candy apple red! Deep and not too light shaded.

Here a shot of bare brass, underneath is candy red with a H of K "solar gold" base. Way too light, even after 10 coats, it just doesn't get darker. Finally, the darker base on the right is the way forward. 4 parts dark candy brown, 2 parts solar gold, 5 drops of Pagan Gold intensifier, got it!

    -IMG_3717.jpg

    Here with only 4 shots of candy red....now things are cookin'. Looking like a plan;

Final assembly started, got this done last night....

Next photo series will be with finished car....oh boy!

COMPLETED! Vintage 1965, Woody Gilmore 150", brass scratch build, 1:16 scale.

Motor is a resin kit, CompResins, just changed a lots of things. Rear tires and wheels are of Revell Funny Car vintage. Front wheels are 40 spoke wire laced. Brass tube chassis following original plans. Paint is a mix from House of Kolor and Specialist Paints, Candy Apple Red.

    -IMG_3732.jpg -IMG_3733.jpg -IMG_3734.jpg -IMG_3735.jpg -IMG_3736.jpg -IMG_3737.jpg -IMG_3738.jpg -IMG_3739.jpg -IMG_3741.jpg -IMG_3742.jpg -IMG_3743.jpg

Maybe tomorrow a light box session. Exhaust tips need some black inside the pipes and the slicks need a tad more sanding to get rid of the seam.

Immensely grateful for the positive feedback, truly the best incentive to maintain momentum. Many thanks guys!

    Mike..

Beauty. A real work of automotive art. Anyone could be proud to display it in a prominent spot.

  20. Working on recreating the louver patterns on the McGee roadster. I’ve never grafted in louvers like this before, so we’ll see how it turns out.

  21. Yes the hpiguys workshop YouTube channel uses floor wax on his models
But DO NOT use this one
Should have tried somewhere else first
May have ruined a halfway decent candy blue paint job...and the Windows
    Ugh
Tried lightly buffing with soft cloth, but no dice.
Gluing on that chrome trim was a pain

I know people use floor wax on paint, and theses are people that do top notch work. But I tried it once on a firewall that had Alclad chrome on it & I thought it sucked, should have left it alone.

I know it's Saturday but my buddy's car

Then the model of the car and a midget racer. Hid dad and uncle opened the first midget race track in Albuquerque back in the 40's.
    He remembers the midgets.
I'm going to see him tomorrow,
I'll see if I can get more shots of some of his other models.
He really is a top drawer modeler IMG_20210410_091731328.jpeg IMG_20210322_142851074.jpeg
