Folks Of Interest Don Garlits Museum Tour

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by greasemonkey54, Apr 10, 2021.

  1. Yesterday I had the privilege of visiting the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala FL and was able to do the guided tour with the legend himself. It was a little over 2 hours listening to the story of the museum and his racing career, and I loved every minute of it. At 89 years young its amazing how sharp he still is and how well he moves around. It was one of the coolest things I've done and I highly recommend it! 20210409_112119.jpg 20210409_095232.jpg 20210409_200644.jpg DSC_0472_1618013164366.jpg 20210409_211722.jpg 20210409_211820.jpg 20210409_211858.jpg 20210409_211922.jpg 20210409_211935.jpg 20210409_211951.jpg

  2. What a special day that must have been. I hope to be that spry at 89, hell I just hope to be around at 89. Spending the day with a legend. It doesn't get any better than that.

  3. The only way it would be better is if Ms.Linda was there holding your hand.

Thanks for the tour pix; I'd love to see it again. His inventory has really grown over the years.

Congratulations on the personal tour. When I lived in Gainesville, I visited the museum several times a year. Last time I was there I saw TC’s urn. Made me cry. I miss TC and Jacono.

I have been to the museum several times. I never got the personal
tour. I was there one afternoon when after visiting the exhibits was
taking a break sitting on the tailgate of my truck. Garlits came by
on his bicycle heading into his work shop. He did not acknowledge
my presence at all. I even said hello but he did not respond.
Damn! I was disappointed like a kid at nearby Disney World
that had been ignored by Mickey Mouse. LOL! I really wanted
to see his fab and work shop badly.

  12. I've been there 4 times, truly the greatest Hot Rod and Drag Racing Museum anywhere.

  13. Amazing! Thank you so much for preserving these wonderful pictures and a great experience here on the H.A.M.B. Now so many people will get the personal tour that they always dreamed about.

  17. Thanks for sharing, I've been there three times and the collection just keeps me amazed. The amount of parts laying around is pretty overwhelming. Never met the man himself but heard he knows his "value".
Heres a collection of pics combined in a video from 2019.

  18. Thanks for the pictures. My vacation plans last year included a visit to the museum tour, but this fucking pandemic ruined that. I hope to make it there this fall. What I would like to know, is how to getr a guided tour with Big Daddy?

What a great day with THE MAN himself. :) Just a side note with the hat, glasses, silver hair, and goatee he is the spitting image of my favorite uncle that passed on some years ago.
