This March 1956 shot taken at Santa Ana shows members of the Drifters Car Club of Redondo Beach surrounding their gutted ’35 Ford 5-window coupe. The fastest speed we have on the car when powered with an Edelbrock equipped flattie was 122.40 mph on September 19th of that year. In November ’57 they stepped up and installed a Chrysler and first time out were timed at 117.19 mph[IMG]

California Hot Rod, Inc. members Dempsey Wilson and Dick Vinyard having a little fun at Huntington Beach back in 1948. Dempsey’s ride was powered by a Merc flattie and wrenched on by Nick Arias for the car owned by Walt Mahoney. Dick’s Ed Walker owned ride was powered by a’41 GMC that fed a Ford Banjo that drove a chain hooked to a live rear axle. See the November ’48 issue of Hot Rod for more details on the car. Ed Walker’s shop in Hollywood was the home of the S.C.T.A. Walkers Club before WWII[IMG]
