like someone said if you don't want the truck heads I have a nice set of 56 car heads I can trade you. I am starting my build on my 354 an those truck heads would look good on my motor just sayin

If your 354 is a pass car engine then losing the front water ports (to the w/p housing) will create several headaches for you.

  4. That's one drawback to the old hemi. I was able to run a 354 4bbl intake manifold on my '53 331 hemi by brazing 1 1/4" pipe stubs in holes drilled in the front water port locations on the manifold then building a thermostat housing. Had no room in my Willys for stock 354/392 water systems.

This '54 331 manifold would be ideal but rarer than hen's teeth.

Here is how I modified the 354 manifold for my 331 & Holley 3-bbl carb. Also I adapted a stainless steel industrial water pump to replace the stocker by machining an aluminum bearing snout for the pump body. I had to adapt a pump impeller from a passenger car water pump because the industrial impeller was too efficient and put out way too much pressure and volume.

Not looking to Hi jack this thread just hope to get an answer or two about this block. It has the casting number 1619829-6 and stamped at the front VT550-2466 crank casting number 1619647 head casting 1619823 with water ports cast” high”in the front. It has a timing gear not a chain . My question is why are the push rod hole elongated at the 11 o’clock and 4 o’clock position in the block ? This 354 did not have an intake on it when I found it in a large collection and will be going back to find it. Any pictures or information on the correct intake and the push rod openings?

I don't know, but with the timing gears, it indicates an industrial engine.

I think that blocks with offset pushrod holes are “w” blocks that were machined for poly heads. Is there a w cast into the block?

Never mind. I see the W in the picture.

Would have had a 2 bl or 2X1 intake where it's a truck hemi.

Thanks I think I will sell this one , it’s part of a collection of 6 or more . I will probably sell this complete Industrial if there is any one interested PM me . There are valve covers for a Marine engine and adjustable rockers in the mix so maybe this block goes with that stuff. My 92 Dodge with the first load .

Hello!! I figured out what the numbers on the piston were. Yesterday I went out to my garage and started working on engine again. I took the head off and gave the top of the piston a good cleaning. The number are 1826 070 not 1826970.

I have another 354 Hemi here. It had .060 pistons in it. I took one of its pistons and it fit in to the cylinder. So it has .070 pistons in it. Egge goes up to a .080 piston on these engines.

Guess should have cleaned the piston better

  14. few industrial engines had that timing gear arrangement - that was used mostly on trucks and the block stamping confirms it was a truck engine

  15. you have a mixture of parts from more than one (different) engine
truck block - stamped ID number confirms it
car heads - water outlets on ends (and casting number) confirms them as car-style heads. Truck engines had the water
exit via the intake manifold, similar to 51-54 car engines
