Jud Larson in Ed Lowther's #2 Sprint Car followed by Ed Elisian in AJ Watson's #33 Offy at a USAC Sprint Car race at Terre Haute on August 16th, 1959. Jud would finish 12th after being in a crash with Bill Brown and Elisian finished 4th. The race was shortened after 18 laps because of rain and Jim McWithey was declared the winner in Hollis Cheesman's #25, Tommy Hinnershitz was 2nd, Don Branson was 3rd, Elisian 4th and Eddie Sachs was 5th. Johnny Boyd in the sunglasses with Chichic Hirashiwa bent over the engine and car builder AJ Watson is standing behind the right front on pit road at Indy in 1961. The car is Bob Wilke's Leader Card Watson Offy that Johnny Boyd drove in the 1961 Indianapolis 500. per Bobby Marshall [IMG]

This is a very interesting shot, seems to be a british auto saloon, maybe somebody can tell where it was.
The DKW car in the alley is a unique piece. I restored this one in the late 90's. it is the only built right hand drive DKW F91 two-seater convertible, body built by Karmann. They took over the fabrication after the Hebmüller factory burnt down in i think it was '51. when i started the restoration of this car, i did a little research on it, a very old guy at the Karmann archive told me on the phone that it was a special order from a british car dealer back in the days. it was painted in a blue-ish silver, i'd call it steel blue, with a red leather interior. the new owner gave me the order to do the full job on it, which was absolutely necessary after long years, it had five or six thick layers of ugly paints on it over lots of rust and bondo. after it was done, it is a wonderful car again, now sporting a light olive metallic paint with a dark green top and (i hope still) the wonderful patinated red interior. my first test drive then was a special experience because it was my first time ever driving a right hand drive car.
cool to see it as a new car.
Thanks SWI and all the others for so much cool stuff, it's a joy to watch this thread each day.

Ward & Warye’s Long Shot, they campaigned the Short Shot at the same time. Short Shot was a shorter wheelbase rail, SBC powered.
