No bad criticism intended here at all, I really, (to use a term from my generation)' DIG this coupe a lot, if this were mine I'd move that roll bar inside, (mine is), and patch that hole in the roof.
Very interesting roll bar set up, How do you propose if at all to make it weatherproof? Wales is wet and windy. Love the look of this car and the fabulous workmanship.
Do like I do, if it rains don't go out, there are slicks too...maybe no wipers either...that's what Daily's are for, the shit days...I have faced these questions by numerous individuals and do explain it's a fairweather Hotrod... The other thing is a boot of some form metal or Fabric/leather fitted around the bars and covering the open area...@nutrocker and @KFC have surely considered the practicality of a mixed race/street Hotrod...
Unfortunately a sanctioning body got involved in pendine and roll bars are mandatory over 100mph and they have to meet certain requirements, x distance above and behind the drivers head, that’s where the roll bar lands. Personally I like it it’s appropriate to the build, to many modern 34’s end up all smoothed out and manicured. Plus it might get chromed! It’s also all removable and will have a fill in for the roof when not in use. there is a scoop under development for when I don’t want the water down the back of my neck! Inspiration
Like Rik (KFC) has said, it’s down to the rules. If we want to run the car at Pendine Sands, and who wouldn’t want to do that?, then it has to have a roll bar that fits within the rules. Those rules state that a roll bar has to be a minimum of 3” above the drivers head with a crash helmet on. The car has a heavy channel, heavy chop and a large motor set back in the frame. Add to that a driver of 6’, the options are very limited to build something that’s fits the style of the car. Hotrods are all about individual taste and making something work better than it was. Form and function. I think this car has both, and keeping the essence of the original build. It’s been a tough ask over the build, and some compromises have been made, but never for an unnecessary reason. It takes balls to do something like this and I think it looks tough as fuck.
Grrrrrrr!!!! just Grrrrreat Stuff...Stunner of a Hotrod indeed...Start it up and drown out the noise!! I like those patches around the bar on that Chevy Coupe...looks like an aircraft mechanic had at it... @nutrocker that cover is Pretty unique as well...does it double as a vent and also allow the upper bar to remain attached?
I have no idea what MMF means, must be lost in translation. As you know Rik has the car back and is getting on with it. The motor has gone off to be properly cleaned after being in the metal dust environment of my workshop. The guy who Rik was hoping to do the small bits of bodywork isn’t available so the body has gone to another Hotrod shop to get that sorted. Meanwhile Rik is moving on with some of the other bits. I’m sure he will update the thread when there’s more to see. Pete.

Not a great deal of progress, the car is now stripped and off for body work at buckland automotive before the body comes off the chassis. The block is away being cleaned but covid has made that a long job. I had a play and fitted up a few of the parts I’ve been saving for this car. Belts seats gauges switches etc. got some mercury 15*5 with 5.70 tyres to try on the front had 15”*6 with 6.00 before Oh and the roll bar got chromed. Should see some progress soon Things are progressing slowly
Well things are progressing slowly, but there’s no rush Chassis powder coated I decided to polish my springs, they will be oiled and left bare Bake plates chromed and painted, ladder bars plated Front spring shape, new main leaf made and various chrominance Column and steering gear chromed Picked up some dimple valve covers 5.60 15” for the front and body getting filled
all very nice who makes the pedal bracket??.i did a similar drilling job on my brake pedal but counter sunk the holes giving the effect of bigger holes without removing too much metal

Beautiful workmanship! Gorgeous car...I personally find the whole roof thing unsettling it would drive me nuts!... I probably would have made the entire body independent from the chassis w a plate to hold the column for a tilt then raised the body on some blocks when I wanted to sand race...couple hours and a cherry picker away you go... stock grille for sand, chopped for street
You did the right thing...it was a race car and you're going to race it again that's the main thing ...I was actually thinking more of wind, noise, sun, rain etc. than aesthetics ...it looks killer
At least paint that front spring. No sense it dripping rust all over that nice chrome and powder coat.
