how do you loosen the clutch pack on a completed 9 inch ford pumpkin to make adjustments to the clutch pack splines?

  2. Are you saying the splines don't line up and the axle shaft won't go all the way in?

Try twisting the axle shaft until the inside splines do line up.

exactly. I have put both axles in and tried twisting, no joy at this point. This is a new setup and I am sure the clutches are really tight

the other way to do it is to take it all apart and put an axle in the splines when you put it back together.

I had the same problem, but I was able to twist the axle enough to get them to line up. If I remember right, I had a pretty long bar across the lugs to get it to twist.

Also, did you use the gauge to set the clutch pack clearance? It may be too tight.

Yeah Jim. I kinda wished they would have done it right in the first place.

If I remember correctly, one axle should go in as it only has the side gear to line up. Hold that one with a big bar and turn the other with a big bar.

Thanks guys. I locked down the pinion to a heavy engine stand, and put in the long axle passenger side, then with the big bar I was able to turn that axle just a bit. Then by the grace of GOD It finally went together. YAHOOO
