Seen a Smokey ram at the swap meet today priced at 500 or best offer, I thought about 300 but never made the offer just keep shopping and figured when I passed back by and make my offer. Man do love procrastination, "It Was Gone" that just saved me 300 plus bucks for something I really don't need. :) Sorry no pictures. :(

centrifugal supercharger on a custom 57 T bird

    Hello,

When we were in the throes of hot rods and cruising, a 56 T-bird came whizzing into the drive-in restaurant parking lot. All heads turned to see what was making that whizzing noise. It was a black 56 T-bird with the top taken off and one of our acquaintances cruising around smiling. It was his new ride and he was as happy as a lark.

No one had a 56 T-bird and now, it was the talk of the whole lot and even the huge parking lot around the other big street, in front of another popular hamburger restaurant. It wasn’t necessarily a rump-rump-rump idle that caught everyone’s attention, but the high whizzing sound of the centrifugal supercharger, straight from the factory.

That was a very envious night. We all were talking about adding one of those centrifugal superchargers (a McCulloch brand) to our Chevy sedans. When I told my brother, he mentioned that was his next idea for a street legal hot rod, a small block Chevy and a McCulloch Centrifugal Supercharger in a Model A or a RPU.

We were familiar with the hard charging 1941 Studebaker Sedan of Junior Thompson and Speed Engineering from Long Beach.

We realized our old 671 SBC motor was very powerful, but, not a perfect daily street driver motor. So, the next best thing at the time was a Centrifugal Supercharger on an SBC motor. Our friends at Reath Automotive told us that a 292 SBC was fine with a McCulloch supercharger. But, we could safely go the 301 c.i. route for more power and still be OK for daily driving.

These old film clips were taken at a local So Cal car show that were popular in almost most communities. They were usually free, but sometimes a local car club or charity organization was using the car show for their annual money making project.

Lots of supercharged and injected motors.
How about the first production car with a turbo supercharger. 20200625_204253.jpg
