Back doing bodywork on my '39 Chev coupe. I've got paint ordered that should arrive next week, so need to sort out details, and begin to partially disassemble the car to get ready to spray it whenever the temps get a little warmer.
I keep going over the body, and still find little minor areas that need more sanding, or slight filler to really make it ready.

Any idea if a GM shifter like this would work with a Ford trans SW1001-R_850x.jpeg

Probably the only thing you may have to modify is the shifter arm on the trans. The pivot points need to be the right length so the detents in the trans match the detents on the shifter. That and how the cable connects. You might be able to change the detents on the shifter with a Dremel, but I think modifying the shift arm is a whole lot easier. Love those shifters.

  5. Decided to change plugs and check the ol’ girl over before heading up to Springfield, MO for the SWMO Hot Rod Hundred next weekend. Looking forward to a road trip and hanging out with lots of great friends up there. Always a great time!

Concur with X, don't know GM shifters but Hurst ratchets require modification to transmission arm on C6. Cable attachment there is similar to what you have.

I've been packing my Galaxie full of stuff to get it to Florida. Trying not to create more problems than I started with! Amazing how much stuff I have stashed away. Then there's the off topic stuff for my locost project....

I massaged tunnel to provide additional clearance for period correct [Thicker cast] NHRA bellhousing and hand polished it when done. I used a heavy lump hammer with rubber cover to reduce any damage; it worked a treat. Steady steady wins the race. Engine installed now with minimal interference. Had a new nylon lower column bearing machined, it's next to be installed.

I installed the engine, damn tight fit with bellhousing attached, and trimmed the apron panels to allow heat to escape as per OEM Thunderbolts, all I need to do now is relocate the brake lines and reposition junction block. Binding around edges tidy them up. NHRA required that Ford relocate line from firewall in case of a clutch explosion.

Not a BIG deal, but I found the wingnut that FITS the dang air cleaner bolt!!

I dropped it at some point last year when fiddling under the hood and POOF, it was gone.

Didn't drop it down the carb, but, since I need tires and etc, etc, etc, the car's been sitting and waiting. With a loose air cleaner. Dumb, I know, I could have just found another by going to the store, but I KNEW I'd find it - just didn't figure it would take 10 months. HAHAHAHAHA!

  14. Yesterday, I installed a new 10SI alternator in the 51, today I gave it a fill-up and a few miles. The car has been mostly idle the last two years, getting new paint, and the alternator went bad. It was causing all sorts of weird symptoms, but now all is well.

I made a 315 mile round trip to pick up a "big" back window to put in my '54 Dodge truck. There is nothing quite like the experience of going through the Lake of the Ozarks on a sunny Saturday.

Anyhow, I went to Lebanon, MO, to meet a guy going to Hartville, MO to retrieve some trucks. He brought the window glass from Madison, WI. Some parts are a little trickier than others.

This week is clean up the '55 Chevrolet for the Hot Rod 100 in Springfield, MO. I've been to the St. Louis event but this is my first time in Springfield.

  16. Cool! See you there. I’m getting my 56 and my Thunderbird ready this week to head up there. You’ll enjoy Springfield too if you like the one in St. Louis.

Replaced the old rusted our Smitty mufflers with new Porter Stainless and added some embossed V8 exhaust deflectors. Looks awesome, sounds way better and now I'm not killing myself with carbon monoxide poisoning.

  19. Think I'll stick a tach in my car today :D don't have time to change the pumpkin out today, so at least it's progress! Might sand a little body filler too. I'll post some pictures later, just here right now to build some inspiration ;)

  20. Bought a couple of tachometers out of the classifieds, put the Sun super tach II in, but it was junk, tossed that bitch in the trash, the other one worked. It'll do for now. 20210328_163931.jpg 20210328_163940.jpg

IMG_1522.JPG after 3 sets of cheap gauges ive finally had it! Finally got smart and bought a set of auto meter gauges and finally got them mounted, wired, and plumbed in the 55. They actually read correctly now! The last set i had was of course china made cheapos and the temp gauge would spin all the way around at least twice while out driving! Guess the ol small block was running around 650 degrees according to that gauge! Word of advice, you get what you pay for!!!!

  23. Took apart the door on my brothers new Buick to see why the passenger window didn’t want to go up or down very well... Seems the bracket that goes from the window channel down to the regulator came loose. I assume it was spot welded or something to the channel originally, but guess I will figure that out and how best to fix it.

I recall that the flattie 6 & cast iron hydro from my 46 Olds weighed a ton when I did the same, I can imagine the additional 2 x cylinders would be damn heavy!:D

  26. Drove about 50 miles this morning in traffic to the kids school making sure this thing is ready to head to Springfield Friday morning. I haven’t been driving it much lately since I got the Thunderbird. It’s still worn out, but I think it should be fine for the trip. :D

Pulled the radiator out of the 40 coupe. Man that is tight in there had to pull the grille chin also to get it out. Now off to order a new one. Who's radiator does the board recommend now that Walker is not an option. Been looking at US Radiator, Custom Auto Rad, and Brassworks.
