Does anyone know the part numbers to convert the pitman bushings to needle bearings? Not having much luck finding a rebuild kit of any kind.

  2. Hi, I had been told that 1949 thru 1952 Chevy had the bushing design & then for 1953 & 1954 Chevy had the bearing design. I have never confirmed it - but I would think you might check into a 1953 0r 1954 Pontiac/Chevy car steering gearbox. As far as getting a kit for a 1953 or 1954 to put into (if it would work) a 1949 thru 1952 gearbox you would be the guy to confirm it one way or the other. Sorry I can't give you more info on that.

Thx I believe your correct on the years. There was an old post I saw here where a guy said a local shop rebuilt hos with needle bearings, but no other information. I have been keeping my eye out for a 53/54 pontiac steering gear, but nothing yet.

  4. Well, let me know if you find 2 of them as I'd like one for my 50 Pontiac.

The option always exists to cut the housing and shaft, install a bearing then use whatever more common steering box or rack I want with a connecting shaft. Thats safer in a wreck too. Easy enough to do just not sure I want too for some reason.
