Today I started off by making a dimple tool to countersink my body bolts into the floor.

    IMG_1304.JPG F6633936-8766-4A88-95B3-C9C461BF623D.jpg 7DAF8FDC-CFE9-4FFC-BAE8-6A318F4339B6.jpg

Then I made the panel of the other side

Then I found that I had no more sheetmetal in my shop so I had to run some errands and buy some more.

Turns out having a girlfriend who likes legos is a huge advantage when building cars..

    IMG_1322.JPG

Made this which after a bunch of work ended up not working out anyways so I cut it up and made this

    IMG_1324.JPG IMG_1325.JPG IMG_1326.JPG

These are the marks for me to put in my beads, I’m going to make the pieces for the other side and finish weld this before I roll the beads tho.

Should be a good day tomorrow.

I got most of what I had on my agenda finished up today.
Closing in and hope to weld everything into the body by early next week.

    IMG_4948.JPG IMG_1335.JPG IMG_1340.JPG
Had some problem making the driver side floors, I don’t know how my brain malfunctioned but I ended up getting it finished on my second try.

    IMG_1343.JPG IMG_1345.JPG

Tomorrow I have a double shift and then Sunday I should be able to get some more stuff done in preparations for welding it all into the body.

Then next step after that is bolting it down and chopping the top.

So today I managed to cut down this tall ol girl.

    IMG_1441.JPG IMG_1445.JPG IMG_1453.JPG IMG_1468.JPG IMG_1474.JPG
    First cut!

    IMG_1484.JPG IMG_1488.JPG IMG_1489.JPG IMG_1479.JPG IMG_5236.JPG IMG_5232.JPG IMG_5178.JPG IMG_1495.JPG IMG_1506.JPG IMG_5249.JPG

Now it’s all cut down and ready to get back together.
Hopefully I can get someone to help me lift it back on tomorrow, it was a bit of trouble getting off.

First testfit to figure out where to cut it again.

I want to avliden getting a ”hump” at the back of the roof so I’m going to look into leaning the rear of the roof to get a flow that close to mimics the flow of the rear of the car.

Gotta spend some time planning it so I can make sure I get the look I’m after.

Hopefully I start cutting on Wednesday.

Today I cut up the roof and moved it around so I can start trimming and get everything in place.

    IMG_1598.JPG IMG_1604.JPG IMG_1606.JPG IMG_1614.JPG IMG_1615.JPG IMG_1619.JPG

I cut the rear of the roof off, so I can move it up and lean it forward.

I want to get rid of the hump at the back of the roof.
Make it flow a bit better.

    IMG_1625.JPG IMG_1628.JPG IMG_1629.JPG IMG_1626.JPG IMG_1634.JPG

It got a bit better than original, but I still feel like it has a bit of a bump so I will have to look into that later this week.
Either I will have to accept it and leave it or cut and re-shape the entire back half of the roof.

I only had a few minutes o look at it so hopefully it won’t feel as bad when I look at it tomorrow again.

    IMG_1669.JPG

So after almost a full day of just moving stuff around I finally got it to where I want it!

    IMG_1646.JPG
    IMG_1674.JPG

Ended up taking another in out of the back and narrowing the roof about half an inch (might take more if needed) to get the flow I was after.

I also ended up trying to mimic the body line with the flow-in of the bottom of the rear window.
Made sense when i got it into place.

    IMG_1675.JPG

More of a streamlined profile and no hump!

    IMG_1667.JPG IMG_1671.JPG IMG_1669.JPG 15C40774-DE4C-42D5-B114-9BEE63AD3D40.jpg

Got my picture taken by my girlfriend too, was so focused I hardly even noticed she was in the garage until I saw her leave again.

    IMG_1647.JPG

Sorry about the mess! I need to clean up this weekend, but I also had to repair the whole upper part of the windshield because it was all rotted. Turned out nice I think.

So this weekend I hope to be able to start trimming everything down and weld it in place.

What do you guys think? Did I fuck it up or is there more people out there who dislikes humpback roofs?

Here you can see the difference, with the yellow tape is from before and the other is how it ended up.

The new roof line flows very well!! Great job!!
Where did you learn your sheet metal skills? Your profile says you do tattoos for a living. Is your second job at a sheet metal shop?

    No, self taught.
Just been reading articles, watching shit on YouTube and obsessing.

I’ve built some cars in the past but these are the first complete floors I’ve built and this is my first chop.

I’ve repaired some stuff and built trunk floors before but nothing like this.
I just have my vision of how I want it to look and since I design stuff for a living I have a fairly good eye for where and how to move the metal to get there.

    Thank you!
I figured my real strength was in building chassis but maybe not.

I have a second job selling tools at a hardware store but just a few hours a month usually, but lately a lot of people have been sick so it’s been full time for a while on top of running my business. Since February it’s been back to normal pretty much tho.

Haha sorry for the insanely long answer but I’m tired and started rambling.

I mean, I try to keep busy.
I want to drive it this summer so I’ll have to keep at it.

It sometimes rains a lot in Sweden and my T-roadster gets really cold and wet

So today got some pieces done and nested.
C-pillars and A-pillars are there just need finishwelding once everything is in place.

    IMG_1703.JPG

Required some cutting to make it fit good.

    IMG_1706.JPG IMG_1708.JPG IMG_1709.JPG IMG_1715.JPG IMG_1718.JPG

Started fitting the top of the door too, takes a while to trim it down til it fits good.

    IMG_1721.JPG IMG_1725.JPG

There is still work to do on the front of the door.

    IMG_1724.JPG

Hopefully I will have the door together tomorrow so I can start on the other side.

Today its been more of the same, buttoning up the front of the doors and the passenger side B-pillar.

    IMG_1730.JPG IMG_1731.JPG IMG_1732.JPG

I also started messing with the radius of which I will round the corners of the doors.

    IMG_1733.JPG

I think this is close to what I will do, tried a few different both smaller and bigger versions but if I went bigger I think it would be nicer to tilt the B-pillars instead and smaller just didn’t make sense.

    IMG_1735.JPG
    IMG_1739.JPG

Next is to make a pattern for the window openings in the doors and make sure they match, then cut out the spot welds of the windshield and start adjusting and measuring everything so I get it right in the money.

    IMG_1817.JPG

So I have been very busy with life this last week or so, lots of work and taking care of my family so they don’t forget who I am.

I managed to sneak in a few moments here and there tho.

Made a wood template for the window opening in the driver side door, so I could mimic the window as exactly as possible on the other door.

    IMG_1788.JPG

Here you can see the blue light shining through where it is off.

So had to bring away some more until it matched the profile.

Also had to figure out how to fill the gap in the door post, it has a brace inside which I can’t get to and work with without cutting the door all to shit.

So what I did was fill the outside piece first, all the way from the back of the brace and around, and the I payed the top of the door post in place and folded the outside over like original, then I will do a little angle piece and weld in to complete the brace and the extra material will be hidden by the felt in the top where the glass slides in.

Didn’t take picture of all that but will post when I get back home again.

There was a fair bit of work on this, because the driver side door was twisted, so I had to work it over a bit to get it to line up.

    IMG_1790.JPG

Here you can see I had to weld an angle iron to the top and pry it down, you can see I put the top part of the door in first here but had to cut it out again.

So I spotwelded the outside first, the worked over this a bit and the used hammer and dolly (read sledgehammer and a large metal wedge) and pushed the back part up to match before welding up the rest.

Seems like ol Henry didn’t plan on us cutting these cars up like this

Really impressed with your fabrication skills. Between two jobs and raising your child it's a wonder you have any time to put in on the coupe. You also must have a very understanding girl friend.
