Projects 33 3 Window Coupe

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by pennafxu, Mar 4, 2021.

  1. My 34 [33 hood and grille] took me 8 years of part time, mostly 3 hrs on Friday nights because my $$$ came in slowly with family needs coming before 34 parts. If I had it to do over again, I might go with a nice, quality 'glass body. One of those swoopy Bonneville styled 34 three windows with doors and decklid already hung.
You're going to find original 33-34 parts are generally available if you are really patient but they're expensive and may need to be repaired, rebuilt or altered to fit. My 5 window body was so bad [an old jalopy racer body] that the only body parts I was able to salvage was the top and then, only the rear section of it.
I'm certainly not going to say it can't be done but expect some rough going that will test your patience and pocket book. That said.........GO FOR IT!

I’m hoping it will only take one car and some fabrication!

Some assembly may be required. :)

But you are closer to owning a '33 than me.

As 3 Window Larry used to say, I will be "patiently waiting" for your updates on the build.

Yes it’s a 33, but it seems like you have 5 window parts. You can tell by the lower bead on the sail panel making a quick rise as it goes to the front. A 3 window has more room before the rise because there is no window there.

Eitherhow, it doesn’t make much difference since you will need to create a majority of the body from scratch. You can modify to fit.

  17. Is it me or is that a ‘36 Terraplane grille turned upside down?

It’s funny you say that... it came in a box of Frosted Flakes in a small packet. The instructions said “ soak in hot water for 22 mins” I left it in the water all night, silly me, getting busy and all. The next day I had all these parts in my garage. As for fasteners none came with it? Any ideas?

Well, I think if you weld up some tubing into a rectangle, and then tack weld all the parts on there, it will make a lot more sense when all the parts are visible, ya know, like a real model kit. Just lean it up against the side of the house and study the parts for a while. the wife will understand I'm sure

Spot on... I ordered the frame and will go from there! As for the wife they are hidden deep in the bowels of the garage, bat cave style. She doesn’t even know I have them! She thinks it’s all one project...

My first '34 was a kit also.

    But it turned out alright.

You are not too far from sitting in the car and making vroom vroom noises.

All the joking aside, you must have found that the block is indeed set up for the 95 system, a grub screw is indeed blocking the 3rd port? so, then you ask about the filter can, yes, i have seen folks hide a spin on inside the old ford can. Sorry, I cant point you to a link, but it has been done. I used Aeroquip , a brand name, for all the lines on my remote filter. Its a black cloth covered hose , invented in WW2 for aircraft, and still used today in all the big trucks for oil and air lines. good stuff, and the ends screw on the hose so you can make your own lengths at home . there is a trick to it, let me know if you go for it

I certainly will. Actually have some aeroquip lines sitting around from some old motorcycle builds! Would you care to post this in the 27 speedster build also.

It’s funny you should ask that! I will be revealing that with pics tomorrow. I didn’t want to post without having it in hand.

After studying your parts pile, you have some 5 window pieces and some 4dr pieces. Nothing I have seen in any of your pics is 3 window, But you can still make a 3 window out of what you have. Stretch the doors, (hell they have to be modified anyhow to be 3 window doors) Get a pair of 35-37 door tops as donors, use your 5 window rear roof tops along with some donor roof parts from a 35-36 coupe top, bestto have some 33-34 sedan rear roof pieces as well. You can save your quarter tops with 33-34 tudor lower quarters. Buy everything else new (lower 6 inches of body) from Tom Bay in Arkansas, KS and you will have that 33 3 window in no time.
