When I was a kid of about 11 or 12 our family and my aunt and uncle went to Lake Erie for a camping vacation. At the time there was a local company that had a Ford Tri-Motor that you could take a sight-seeing ride in. While we were in Port Clinton I bought an AMT 40 Ford model, while I was checking it out my uncle saw it had a stock flat motor included in the kit. He told me that that airplane flying around had three Ford car motors to power it which I believed. It was a standing joke between us until the day he died!!

 

I just found out recently from my cousin that my Uncle Jim worked on the dam before the war when he was in CCC's It's funny the things you find out about people that are long gone some of the interesting life they lived.

 

I just love those early Pontiac engines with the chrome water necks on each head and multiple carburetors. I like the early Ford backing plates with the recesses painted too.

 

Does explain where all the old cars went.

I'm a Wisconsin guy and the EAA show in Oshkosh is a very cool deal to visit for anyone, I highly recommend it, it's the Experimental Aircraft Association builders show, becomes the busiest airport in the world when the show runs, their onsite museum is worth a look if in area. This years dates July 26, August 1, 2021. My Ford TriMotor story, every show they have many unique planes that you can buy a seat for a short ride, watched it take off and land, purchased a seat. wait my turn in line, get on and one engine would not start, get off plane, go back later and given a choice, ticket good tomorrow (hoped to have it repaired) or refund, took refund as I only spend a day there, So.............. on the other end of spectrum one year they had the Concorde there, same deal, but I did not buy a ticket, pretty pricey IMO seem to remember $700, would have been cool. I lived about 70 miles south of airport and the B3 stealth bomber did a low altitude flyover there and we were in our backyard, saw it do a power vertical climb Very near us, it shook the ground and we could see how huge it was, a definite WOW moment. The days before groups of warbirds flew over our home on their way to the airshow, always my reminder. Fellow CarCrazy's, check it out.
