I was just wondering where that came from. I never questioned it. The whole point of the thread was street driven gassers. Not trying to be a dick, just curious.

  3. This one is a buddy of mine’s car. It isn’t real fast yet, but he’s working on it to get there as he can. He drives it regularly.

Searched and searched for pics of a local guy that has a '56 Ford with a built 460, C6, 9", full cage and 10 sec slips. He regularly drives it to cruises, shows, etc. I'll find 'em!

Kind of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Maybe not in looks, but in their manners!

But this one hated driving slowly and would foul spark plugs if I didn't run it out occasionally.

My current '39 Chev coupe is the easiest, and most streetable gasser style car I've built so far. I built it to be more street than strip, and it's a great driver car.

His car is about as badass as they get....on the strip, at least. But he switches to gasoline, EFI, and a distributor for street driving. Although it's still badass on the street...

I drove this one around Smithfield, VA...

Red Stanley drove it lots of places in much earlier days... say 1959.

I also drove it on the street in it's original hometown of Ringgold, GA in 2013. BTW, I was smoking the tires just before the picture was taken... and, no, I hadn't noticed the Sheriff's car across the street!!
    York2013fromHAMBa.jpg
I also drove it at York... to chase parts for my pickup!!
    York2013fromHAMBb.jpg
And I drove it in Baltimore at a Revival even though hooked up to my old pickup in this picture that was in TRJ.

I gotta say the car was awesome to drive!! Anywhere!!

I even picked up a hitchhiker!!

I picked this up last fall and I am still getting it sorted out. It has a 308 cubic inch small block Ford with a tunnel ram, four speed, and a 4:56 Ford 9 inch with a Detroit locker. Bare floor, aluminum interior panels, and radio delete. I installed Thundersticks and added 12" Cherry Bombs as resonators but it is still so loud that I anticipate getting a fixit ticket this summer. It needs to have a cage put back in it.

    This car is a handful.

Every so often I get the itch to build a super nasty street driven car. I've had some in the past, but I sort of shelved all that. That feeling is creeping back in.....

    must.........hold............back...................................

I have a set of Hilborns set up for a 427 CID SBC. Alcohol, but I could tweak them for E-85 I guess.

Also not trying to be a dick, but I'd venture to say about 90% or more of the straight axle cars I see are gasser "tribute" cars meant more for looks than performance than real legit drag cars that see the occasional street use. And when I mean legit drag car I mean an old car, with old or old-style parts, that can crack a 13 second 1/4 mile.

I drive my '40 (my avatar) around some times. It's tagged, insured and has mufflers. But with a 7gal. Moon tank and 4.30 gears, I don't go too far too fast. It wasn't a gasser in an earlier life, but it was someone's hot rod around Baltimore, with an early Olds and such. It has a 9.5 to 1 426 wedge. And I have been 11.40 at 117 with slicks and open headers with 100 Av gas at 3500 lbs. Maybe not impressive to some...but makes me happy. Gene.

Most guys think they have an 8 second street car, but in reality it's a 16.80 car. 11.40 is nothing to sneeze at. Hats off to ya, my friend.
