I'm not talking about a Street Freak or a fake gasser with a stock 350.

I am talking about a rude, crude, vertex magneto wearing, Hilborn injected, not very streetable gasser. Something that does terrible in traffic and would look just at home on the track. Full caged, 5 way harneses, plexi windows, Halibrand wheels.....
@Kiwi Kev did, I know for sure.

    Hot, loud and fast......

If you don't post a pic, then it never happened.

  2. My pal Randy has a Willys that sees lots of street time and I have posted pics of his vette

Mine is a real rude, crude, bare floor, no side window, real '60s vintage tire wearin' gasser from 1964-65, but it has carbs (on a 6-71) and a Mallory instead of a mag. It's licensed and insured, goes to the local cruise nights but gets trailered to events like Eagle Field and Bakersfield. It's fast, loud and fun to drive (for a short distance)
I have a 4 port Hilborn and a couple of magnetos but I haven't got around to messin' with them yet.

Have a buddy that has a 41 willys that runs a 540 horse small block with newer style hilborn stack injection.

Complete with straight axle, 4-speed, tin interior, cheater slicks and its street legal. Races it on the weekends.

He has a matching 55 Chevy too, drives it on the street too. It was pure race car when he bought it and did just enough to make it street legal.

Both cars were down right scary when he bought them. The willys would change lanes in a heart beat under acceleration and the 55 was a bunch of bad ideas. Had battery in trunk with gas tank and wrapped the positive battery cable wrapped around the aluminum fuel line all the way to the starter lug and the neg battery cable bolted too the same bolts as the fuel line too. And that was just 1 of many "Oh sh#t! What were they thinking!" Moments on that car.

did back when i was in high school - hilborn injected mopar 440 in a 37 ford coupe - not really a good street ride - all or nothing with the hilborn - and it overheated in about 6 blocks, so spent a lot of time parked letting it cool down but fun from light to light - jaxx

  13. Tunnel ram, full spool 4.57 gears, bare bones painted steel interior with just 2 seats, no carpet, no radio, no heater, no wipers, 6 point roll bar, manual brakes, manual steering, about as raw as you can get.
I drove it all over, kids to school, cruise nights, out for lunch and 45 minute drives to work, ain't that what you're supposed to do with them. 20140712_135643.jpg Badmoondeadon_zpslyegcxey.jpg Philip Peacok at Empire Gold Cup 8-18-2013 cropped.jpg 102_6390.jpg

  15. Hardly qualifies, OP said street driven, not garage art.

I'm not injected but it will be driven on the street and then taken to the track. I had hoped to have it out last week but too much rain. Now while I will drive it on the street all the time (will be licensed and insured) it won't be going out in the rain with the slicks on it.

  17. Umm, that is during assembly and I guarantee you that one is driven hard. Like everything Randy owns and builds. All of his cars are set on kill.

I built this little J back in '05 and drove it back and forth to work.

    Had a nasty 389 Pontiac.

The guy I sold it to races it on a regular basis.

I did, but I sold it finally. My '63 Falcon with a .040" over 454, 4 speed, and a 8 point cage was a lot of fun on the strip or the street. It was loud, even with a full exhaust, and annoyingly loud with open 3.5" collectors. Ran a tunnel ram with twin Holleys, and on a hard clutch drop it would lift the front wheels on the street or the strip.
After awhile it got where the horrendous poor gas mileage on the street made it not so much fun. Filling the 16 gal. tank, and doing a 22 mile run to the car cruise and back cost me almost half a tank of gas! But I loved it for a few years. Since I have my other gasser that's also street/strip, but easier on gas with it's tunnel rammed twin carb 350, I drove the Austin more than the Falcon. So when I bought a 3rd gasser project to build, I sold the Falcon to fund the '39 Chev project.

This one is a handful when you get into it, but still gets around 12-13 mpg, and can be easier to drive slowly.

But this one hated driving slowly and would foul spark plugs if I didn't run it out occasionally.

My current '39 Chev coupe is the easiest, and most streetable gasser style car I've built so far. I built it to be more street than strip, and it's a great driver car.

Street driven cars generally have legit registration.

  27. You're not going to beat the legitimacy of this guy right here, drives from Arizona to east of the Mississippi river, averages 10.0 and wins his class in Dragweek (if you don't know what this grueling event is then look it up) then turns around and drives back !
Now mind you there's nothing on this car post the mid 60's, old school detroit 6-71, Carter carbs, th400 with no overdrive, 9 inch slicks, doing stuff people can only dream about doing.
