it has shprt Clifford headers , it seems like it goes away after 1200rpm or so. I wonder if my cheap oil pressure Guage is wrong

Kinda far out there as a question.....but......since it's a 292 inline Chev.....are the flywheel bolts all tight and/or are there any cracks around the mounting holes ? Have fun

25psi if correct should be plenty, I saw a lot of them in P series vans years back after 150k 10psi was not uncommon at idle and no noises.
Fuel pumps made funky noises, the fiber gear after it got a lot of wear would make noise.

Do you have a bore scope camera to get a look at the tops of the pistons?

    Edit
I see a chrome valve cover it is clearing the rocker arms correct?

yes it's a factory valve cover, and I didn't put a fiber gear, it's aluminum. you know I didn't replace the cam bearings, could that be an issue, it just sounds so noisy. I've driven it about 2000 miles and I think it's getting loudet but not sure

Cam bearings don't usually make a knocking noise, low oil pressure maybe but even if spun won't effect the lifters.

I might disassemble the valvetrain and Inspect the lifters

Keep an eye out for any bent pushrods while you in there.
    Good luck!
