Some of you may already know. I just learned this the hard way. If something is being sold on marketplace and you do the deal via messenger and pay using the FB pay app, which is PayPal, they will not protect you from fraud. You're on your own.

I don't know the app you speak about, but can you share details of what happened?

I was on a FB group and a guy was parting out a 36 Dodge pickup. I reached out to him and made a deal on the grill and shell. Asked if I could pay through PayPal or FB. I figured that PayPal has had a reputation of protecting the buyer, often times at the peril of the seller. So, I sent the money to procure the deal. Within an hour, he had erased his profile and all of the pictures of the truck that he sent through messenger were gone. Now I'm out a significant amount of money and PayPal won't do anything about it. I went to research what gives and I found out that they only protect you if you buy directly from an ad on marketplace. If you message the seller and send money that way, they offer no protection.
Needless to say I'm not happy and wish him harm.

    Doesn’t make sense to me.
This is no different than paying for an item through the H.A.M.B. with PayPal.
    Don’t use friends and family.

First sign of a scam is friends and family for payment. This has been covered numerous times.

Having a Facebook account in this day and age is absolutely nuts to begin with. In fact, if you have the app on your phone... well, it’s too late for you. You are sold.
