Has anyone put whitewalls on there Halibrand, Real Wheels or American Rebel wheels? It just seems wrong as Halibrand seem more HotRod and white walls seem more Custom but would like to see pictures if anyone has tried this.

  2. Whitewall cheater slicks used to be a thing. So given the right car they may not be too far off.

I have never been a whitewall type, but maybe that would be an example of a hot rod type of a tire with whitewalls.

  3. Yeah I've seen it before, and I agree with you, it sends mixed messages.

With one exception... a white wall on a pie crust slick on the back of a period digger or gasser is OK.

  5. White walls look better on steel wheels, stock or smoothies (imho)...

  8. I've always felt that the whitewalls detract from the wheels, in essence, they become more of a focal point, when it should be the wheels themselves that are the focal point. This feeling goes back to when I would see people put whitewalls on Cragar SS mags. It just never seemed right to me.

Yeah, I put a pair of white wall tires on a pair of Halibrand copy, Sprint front wheels.
Looked horrible. They stayed that way about two days..!
The same front wheels are on it, but the rear wheels have been changed...the whitewalls...are gone.

  15. White walls on Halibrand wheels is completely wrong and there is no historical precedent for doing it!

I think it works fine if you are going for an early '60s "Autorama" show car type of look.:)

As per the OP's thread title Halibrand Sprints.
Where are the "sprint" style, most of those shown have been "kidney bean" style.

My opinion; only if you have to to accurately recreate an old historic hot rod. Otherwise, no way......
However... Looking at the photo of Ivo's roadster I can't imagine any other combination looking better. Why is that?

Whitewalls, no matter if they're pinstripe or four inches wide, don't belong
on a "mag" style wheel. I don't care if the wheel is a Sprint, kidney bean,
Cragar GT, Keystone, Torq Thrust, etc. I guess a guy will do what he
feels he needs to do if he just has to clone a car instead of coming up with
his own style. Then again, a Cragar SS with a narrow whitewall works on
lowriders, can't explain it, don't understand it, but it does. I guess it's really
just a matter of "to each his own".

  26. I tend to associate whitewalls with full wheel covers and hubcaps, sort of like peanut butter and jelly. But it's also true that you can have jelly on a biscuit or peanut butter on a cracker if you want.
If you're taking a poll, I think you have your answer. But if you don't always follow the rules and color inside the lines, then follow your own bad self, you crazy rebel you!

I've seen whitewalls and halibrands together in numerous old car magazines, show, race etc.

So I say its your car and your wallet do what ever you want.

As for me, I'm cool with it, just depends on want look your after...
