Make sure to measure from the front splash pan to the back of the bumper. Mine was around 3 inches, and I had to trim the front splash pan a little bit. Also: the bumper brackets are made of what I can assume is bulletproof tank armor and spring steel. I had to use a machine shop to drill mine out, as it dulled all my good bits trying. And even their machine wasn't very happy drilling the holes. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Got my dad down visiting and bored while I'm at work, so he knocked out the brackets for the falcon console and the rest of the driveshaft tunnel today. We welded it out and I used automotive seam sealer on all the joints and welds. Tomorrow we will prime and throw a rattle can coat of paint on it to seal it up. Eventually the body of the car will get cleaned off via sand blast or it will get dipped. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Automatic steering column rebuild starts now. Hoping to patch the little rust the car has, get a new steering box in it, new tires, and a couple other odds and ends and then it's back to a daily driver. Wish me luck. Lol Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Anybody good with a 3d printer or have any ideas on having this stuff remade? The last 2 pieces I need for my cruiseomatic column, the shift pointer and the indicator. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Giant rat fink floor shifter: gone. Also waiting on a few more parts for the automatic column to show up, and gotta order floor pans and some extra sheet metal. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Got my carpet sample today.. seeing if the supply house has it in bulk. If so, the hamb may have another supply of "trinidad" carpet. Also hoping they have it in black and silver instead of black and gold. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
8.8 narrowed this weekend. Need to rebuilt it and mount it later down the road. Don't mind my tig weld, I haven't done tig on pipe since 2012. Lol Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Shift indicator showed up along with spring insulators and a good column shift arm while I was vacationing/narrowing the rear end Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Column: done. New bearings, restored and NOS original parts. Thank you to all the parts and help from the folks on here. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Some guys are swapping Ford-O-Matics out for T-5's and will want your old pedal set up so post them in the H.A.M.B. swap meet. You guys with 1952-56 Fords that had a Ford-O-Matic and are swapping to an AOD or C4 lokar has a solution. Part # ACA-1807 for the AOD (ACA-1801 is for a C4) pictured here.
Yessir! I will post that stuff in the near future once I get all the factory clutch stuff out and off the frame. I'm getting parts together to pull the motor and trans, re do the mounts, and I just ordered up that lokar setup for the column shift! Thank you for the info! Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Just know that if you use these Lokar linkages with the AOD that you have to drop the trans pan in order to install the Lokar shifter into the trans. I decided to leave mine on the shelf, for now, until I get to the point of having to drain and drop the AOD pan.
I was looking at that in the install instructions. My AOD is pretty wore out in the car right now. My uncle has another AOD for me but with the covid I can't get over and see him at the moment. I'll just supply the lokar kit to the trans shop so they can install the part when they rebuild the trans, and then I can build new motor and trans mounts and get rid of the sketchy angle iron. Steering column fits good, now waiting to buy floorboards and pick up my new transmission. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Drivers side floor pan showed up today. Gotta order a passenger side and then cut. Likely going to do the rockers at the same time. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Fuel tank arrived today... gotta love the packaging. Luckily there's no damage. Now I'm on the hunt for new fuel tank straps, as well as a new sender unit. Should be making good progress over the next week or two, replacing the drivers floor pan, rocker panel, body mounts, and getting it drivable again. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Well: looks like I'm doing the passenger floor pans too. And rocker panel. Damnit. Used dry ice to freeze the sound deadening and chip it off. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Drivers floor pan almost done. Waiting on por15, weld through primer, and a few other odds and ends. Patched the rust in the toe board and ordered the passenger floor pan. Should have floor pans and trans tunnel done in the next couple weeks. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
What kind of "locking" system is there on your shifter column for each gear? Trying to figure out how to build similar shifter assembly for my 56 desoto, originally manual car, now tf 904, hard to find original automatic steering column here in Finland..
My column is the stock column for a 53 ford, and I actually used the stock detents in the column. The shift linkage kit I used from Lokar gave me the adjustability to make everything work right. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I might do that. I am also contemplating going back to 2 inch blocks. For the moment, it has already self clearanced.. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
And you won't find a 'automatic' column for that car as that was the first year for pushbutton shifting that was located on the dash. https://www.allpar.com/threads/chrysler’s-brief-foray-into-pushbutton-automatics.230024/ Best bet will be finding a later column and fitting it.
Yessir it does. I'm hoping to just be able to leave it. I already got rid of the lakes pipes and I'm having the exhaust re done soon. So I should have enough ground clearance as it sits. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Drivers side floor pan cut out and replaced. Body brace internally got coated with POR15, also patched a spot on the toe board. Passenger side should be here Thursday and then I gotta fab a trans tunnel. Sent from my SM-G975U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
