Technical Olds guys, what’s the difference between the 371 and the 394?

The 59 and 60 371s are basicly the same block as the 394 and wider then the 57/58 371 but will fit where a 303 or 324 came out of.

 

Call Tony at Ross Racing Engines 330 544 4466. He can answer any questions you may have regarding the early Olds engines. It makes a great hot rod engine. Here is mine. 57' 371" Ross aluminum heads, roller rockers, Isky roller cam, 671 GMC blower single Holley 800 carb. Best et 6.37 1/8 mi., 10.27/126 mph 1/4 mi.

 

I just picked up 41 ford panel with a 371 olds in it , has a Mallory dual point, and aluminum finned no name valve covers and 4 barrel hope to to it going soon.

 

@GOATROPER02 indicated that external balancing started in 57 with the 371..... all 303/324 are internally balanced.

Someone mentioned J-2 earlier. GR8 runners & durable. A friend had one in a 57 Olds 98 . He beat on it and it took a lick'n & kept on tick'n. That car would RUN !

 

Can't believe you still have it! That seems like a helluva buy to me.

 

It's gone now to a Hamber in CT 2 weeks ago and he was very happy with all he got.

The beauty of an early 371 is it looks like a 303/324. Very traditional.
Also, you can use those nifty factory valve covers with the humps.
