Grew up in the central valley. From about 57-58 on most all were dropped a bit in back and more in front. my 50 Olds sat like that in 62 with 8.20 15's on the back as did my 57 Pontiac in 59. Have a pic somewhere of a 54 Ford sitting like that from 59. No taildraggers where I lived.
Picture from 1959 for yearbook at wife's uncles station--54 Ford dropped in front and Buick caps I think. As a side note--local cop's wife drove a Buick--don't know how many times the caps were stolen but a lot.

That 50 does not sit like any I have seen from the mid 50s,I have some pictures of my uncles 49 or 50 and its lower in the back and has skirts and that is all I known for back in the mid 50s.

I also remember hearing that "down in the front" was used as a psychological trick to convey you may have transplanted a "bigger than stock" engine.

  6. The lower left of the photo looks like a '46 or so Lincoln rear end (Zephyr maybe?).

I think I might build a real car,I think I can get a 49 or 50 coupe much cheaper then a 40 coupe and I have a Y block that could go in it.

Who knows, maybe the car has a flat front tire and they're all standing in front of it for the picture.

Does anyone know what color that 50 is,I posted the picture on a model forum and a couple thinks its Miami Cream which is a yellow. I was thinking it was that pea green color.

Here's a couple of pics for inspiration. I took these a few years ago in Kalamazoo. 20180907_123612.jpg 20180907_123644.jpg 20180907_123525.jpg

  12. It's either 1953 or 1955. Those are are 1951 California plates and the grey/silver tab was only '53 and '55.

The black Ford doesn't look brand new so I'm going with 1955. Ahhh, to be alive then :).

  13. Lincoln on the left 53 Ford Victoria hard top in the middle and a fixed up shoebox that's lowered a little in front and has the trunk shaved with license moved down on the bumper, dual pipes and big rear tires. Probably a 1954 photo. The rake stance got popular about that time.

I think the tail dragger look pretty much started in California. It may not have made it up to the west side of WA, but I bet there were tail draggers on the east side of the Cascades. And it may have made it's way to the Midwest/East, but it didn't start there.
