I found this today and wasn't sure if it was an actual Cadillac Emblem or not. It's about 4" wide and 2¾" tall. It has tabs on the side that don't look to ever been bent over. Material seems to be a thick pot metal. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks
Definitely Cadillac but what year or what use I can't say. It looks like it was not made to be painted the usual Cadillac colors but left plain, maybe for an accessory box. It's probably stamped steel and zinc plated, though, because pot metal tabs would break not bend. Is it magnetic?
No it's not magnetic. I'm like you I think it's for some kind of accessory add on. I figure it must be some kind of after market part since it doesn't have any stamping identification.
Cadillac dropped the Merlettes (Ducks) in 2000 and redesigned its badging and got rid of the wreath in 2014 And after looking at images yours looks backwards to the real one.
Looks like an aftermarket knockoff, designed to be just different enough from the real one that they would not get into legal trouble. I have no idea what is was intended to be used for. Most likely something to put onto your plain wheel covers, or just to stick on the car somewhere to dress it up. Might look in a 60s-70s JC Whitney catalog and see if you can find it.
The "crown" motif at the top of the emblem you have has only five "jewels" or spires. When Cadillac used this as part of their emblem it always seems to have seven jewels. Looks like an aftermarket "wanna-be" emblem.
It's not a GM part, raw like that, and like Frankie47 points out, it's incorrect. Where are the ducks? There should be ducks...
Yep me too.... After market knock off. Looks to me like maybe for a hub cap. Maybe a cheap aftermarket hubcap set then you could buy your choice of centers to put on it maybe.
