I actually have some one interested in doing a 40s Bentley custom... but it will have to wait till I get some of these Cadillacs ( my paying job) undercontrol. This arvo I folded a double step and spot welded it to the inner door to accept the door skin.
Interesting seeing the Peugeot Darl Mat pop up in this thread. They have the coolest filler caps, and that crazy disappearing windshield that winds down into the cowl.
Been wanting to make a stone shield for a long time. Wheeled it up out of mirror ss with the plastic still on and it worked. Will leave the top edge long till I get the door swage sorted and then emulate the same flow.
as is stated daily--the only thing more impressive than the work,is that you have this/these vision(s)-incredible!
I am totally blown away, more skill in your little finger than in my whole body, can’t wait to see the complete package. Doug
The second last pic has a sweet line that runs from the top of the rear fender, swooping down and along the bottom of the door and up towards the cowl.
The fusion of your skill set and imagination is fuckin bitchin dude. I have the vision but skill set sometimes lacking. That's when it's time to wood shed and bone up. Love what your creating and this hobby.
Door skin wheeled up . It’s oversize presently and will shrink down once the edges are rolled. Great to finally see it as a full form and seeing all the separate forms reside harmoniously together.
You know you did it right when the car looks as good with top up as it does with it down! Just curious is it the angle of the pics or is the front end going to come down a bit?
Yeah the engine and box are out so it’s at the top of its travel. It will come down 3 or 4 inches. Then it will need a full tank of gas in the back as well to level it out.
I know I've mentioned it like 10 times but that roof is just so right, even though really it should be so wrong. I never would have believed that would work, but it does, and it's just right. Looks great with the top up.
Since I can get away with my Yurripean pics in this thread, here goes! Some inspiration! Delahaye 135's Two Bugatti Type 57's and a M-B Delage D8S Horch: Alfa: Two Renaults Lancia...I like these door handles, too:
Seein all them thar Yourapeeing cars jus showd me thay aint got nuttin on u. Love the build and vision. Car looks great top up and down. Tim
The maroon car with black fenders in the 3rd to last picture is pretty interesting, but I wouldn't trade CadMad's car for the whole darned batch of them... well, unless I had money on my mind instead of beauty.
I was just wondering, what are your plans for the suspension? Kustom lowness, or more like an original coachbuilt type deal? I think it says a lot that it already looks good, even with the engineless stance it has now.
Thanks GirchyGirchy , just about all of those were studied very carefully . The Bentley Embiricos designed by Georges Paulin and the time frame of it’s build , and Paulin’s death at the hands of the Nazis in 1942, played a significant roll in the streamlined design I wanted. Look at my rolled sills. Good timing as well cos yesterday I pulled my bumper collection out and had a look and I’m tossing and turning on the direction. My mate in Perth has a 1934 Cadillac Aerodynamic coupe with Biplane bumpers. Which I love. He also has a Horch roadster similar to the one pictured and both share the telescopic bumpers. As does that Lancia Astura. I’ve been thinking of using a Macpherson struts or heavy duty shock absorbers. I found some oval SS handrail tube at the scrap yard. I need to get the car a bit further along and then play with those. I have some nice Packard overriders which need some aerodynamic reshaping. As far as stance. I am governed by the 4 inches of suspension travel I currently have in the rear due to the convertible top well above the rear tire. So I think stance will be close to factory ride height. That also avoids registration dramas keeping the chassis basically stock. That way it’s a Custom bodied Packard on a stock factory chassis. It’s already a sleek low height. I have a 53 Eldo beside it which was a very low big car and the Packard roof line is lower. I abhor the sill scraping Zephyrs and Cadillacs which just lose the essence of driving these cars, not parking them for show. Last thing I did yesterday was trim the door panel to 12 mm larger than the opening leaving enough meat to swage the lip. But it already harmonises the shape of the body a lot more.
