There's a red A/GS Willys coupe #1024 in the upper right corner of picture. I will look and see if it is on the entry list for the 64 Nats.

    Hello,

That small photo capture of a red Willys Coupe seems to be K.S. Pittman’s from his early days. He had various versions of the 41 Willys that we all have as plastic models and it was pretty popular on the match race circuit. It could have been his red 41 Willys with the distinct sticker on the rear panel of the coupe. But, by December of 1964, he showed up at Lion’s Dragstrip with a 1933 Willys Coupe built to the hilt.

This 1941 version was just prior to the 1933 Willys that showed up at the December 1964 All Gas Coupe and Sedan Meet at Lion’s Dragstrip during that year.

Perhaps he took that 41 Willys back to the Nationals for one last hurrah prior to the big changeover to the 33 Willys Coupe.

    Hey 19,
It could have been possible that the 41 was in Indianapolis in September and the 33 was getting the final detailing for the big West Coast showdown with the top racers in the Gas Coupe and Sedan Class. With unlimited sponsorships and mechanics at their beck and call, a jet to Indy and back would not be out of the question. (let alone a 2 car field at the championships.)

But, here is some proof that the 33 Willys was also in Indianapolis in 1964:

I thought I'd known that truck since it was new, but apparently not. But then again it was about a 5 year build before it hit the track.
This is a model I built of it.

That's pretty sinister, I like it. Did Willys ever have suicide doors?

No American made cars had suicide doors.

  17. My Buddy decided on holes so we settled on this pattern and drilled front end.

A friend sent me this off of FB Jerry Catafalo's Jersey Engineering at Connecticut drag way. Must have been a Gasser meet because there are pictures I posted on the 33-36 Willys thread with Jack Merkel and Eddie Sanzo. In one picture you see the top of Jerry's truck behind Sanzo's coupe.

1940Willys the car is vaguely familiar but I can't place it. I may have had that steel nose in my possession once and sold it at Lebanon Valley swap meet some 6 or so years ago. Naw now that I look it's not the same one.
