I bought this 28-29 sedan a week ago it was a drag car in the 60s to 70s and was put in storage for 40 years supposedly. It has dragway 42 from ohio stickers on the windows it was bought from around there anyone have pictures or ever seen it back in the day just curious of the history on it IMG_0927.JPG IMG_0928.JPG IMG_0929.JPG

I don't know but buy it!! OH you did, awesome...What the heck is going on with the firewall...Godzilla bite it...

Congratulations...it looks like a great solid base for a Hotrod comeback...it seems to have side mounts for obviously a later model V8 or inline...as Beaner said tits...

When they say take an axe to it, its generally not literally... @Harley32 is lucky they didn't do any more than firewall duty...

  7. I wondered about the firewall too. I was just not goin there. LOL

I am just a sucker for something that someone has already thrashed. I rough old race car trumps anyone's high zoot hot rod anyday.

Oh those mounts are for a hurst mount I think.

@Harley 32 welcome to the Hamb...first 5 posts are rock solid...;)

  10. Someone cared for it that's for sure.

It looks like it was a fender car for sure, and has bumpers so it probably ran Gas Class

There is a lot of car here for sure.

Had a sbc in it guy had the engine but i wasnt willing to pay the price he wanted for it. Was a standard shift with a gm third member rearend. The firewall is the worst part the car. Has a little rust here and there but nothing cant be fixed

I doubt it was raced much. The doors appear to still fit well, but with un-boxed rails and no X member, that frame woulda twisted that A-Bone up like a sonofabitch.

  17. Was it the race prepped 283? How was it equipped? And, how much was too much?

Oh yeah, cool start! What are your plans?

I'm not seeing anything there that says drag car. Looks more like just an old hot rod, which is why it probably has such nice looking sheet metal on it. Its a good start to a cool car.

Anyone during the early years could buy a Dragway 42 sticker.
I agree. Wasn’t raced much. Although it’s a great start for a project.

agree that it probably didn't go down the track much - if at all.
I purchased an Anglia that was supposedly a drag car but it was built so crudely that it probably never made a pass. Bound up welded suspension, crude spray paint lettering, body mods done with a cutting torch, etc.

In a way you can be thankful that its race history is dubious, as evidenced by straight door openings and relatively untouched sheet metal.

I don't want to sound sarcastic, but from what you have to start with and what you plan (flat head, chop) the history really don't matter Tom

I would consider it to be a late '28. I say this because it has a body mounted taillight and the front crossmember has those funny ribs on the back trough. But it has the later stamped running board braces instead of the early forged braces.

Looks like a 30 31 ft crossmember ,early has recessed rad mount. I could be wrong.

Nope, yer wrong. 28-29 have raised pads, 30-31 are recessed.
