The 1957 De Soto's were the best looking De Soto's built. Along with the 1957 Chryslers they were the best designs by the Chrysler Corp. Down hill after 1957. What do you think? Ron
This ad is great and of course reminds me of my 62 Tiger i.e. a Bonneville with just 1 carb instead of 2. Oh, that bike. Bought it not running to find out the point cam/lobe had a sheared in the case thread/bolt that held in the points/advance unit located down on the case near your right ankle. It would never hold the point gap spacing which btw was 16 thousands and would have to continuously reset the points. Used a mercury head dime which was surprisingly 16 thou to gap the points. Only parts at that time in the midwest were through JC Whitney Catalogue and they did not have that part either. Could never find that advance unit and the thread tap was whacked out too. Never did get it to the point of being able to actually ride it even after lugging it around in the trunk of my car everywhere trying to get it going. No one in my area for 300 miles around was a dealer. In the end I probably pushed that bike at least better of 2 miles to get it going. Yeah but those are the kinda things you do when your a high school fool. Triumphs did have their very own distinctively unique sound though.
LOL that is the motorcycle I learned to ride on a single carb tiger. While in the USMC when we went on deployment a few guys got left behind to clean up the barracks and do firewatch. One time I got left the keys to a bunch of cars and bikes to "Start once and awhile" while my buddies were gone. I drove that bike around more than any of the other vehicles.
