Hi, I'm looking at the differences in Chevy exhaust manifolds. On a Chevy V6 I have, the passenger side manifold is about an inch further away from the cylinder head than the drivers side so it doesn't really hug the block at all. It's a parameter of the manifold I hadn't really noticed before. I'm going to be installing a 350 in a project and I would like to keep the manifolds as close to the block as possible.

Ebay, Amazon and Google show many illustrations of exhaust manifolds and I'm using them to try to get an idea of what stock SBC manifolds may work in the space I have. Since it's not always possible to envision how much a manifold might end up off the side of the head, I'm wondering if any of you guys have part numbers for SBC manifolds that hug the head.

    Thanks

  2. What are you putting it in? If its a hot rod one of us has figured it out. There are always shorty block hugging headers if need be.

Are you hunting aftermarket or original GM manifolds? Ram horn or drop down style? Better air flow or it doesn't matter because space is critical?

The earlier manifolds hug the engine pretty well, I think the later ones (late 80s-90s) might be spaced further out.

There are several different designs, as you've probably noticed. The center dump rams horn type usually work well in early cars.

I'm using center dump rams horns on sbc in my '37. The Corvette rams horns are for 2-1/2" pipe.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the help. I listened to what y'all said and looked for some earlier manifolds. I actually found a pair that I think will work on Ebay, very inexpensive (used, not Dorman) I'll see how they workout in real life!
