So I figured I would start my first build thread in over 10 years! (First one on here) This is my newly acquired basket case of a 29 roadster! its rough, I mean real rough. In fact you could argue its almost too far gone... but... Im saving as much as possible and have a huuuge amount of panels ready to build something. I have zero idea on the history. Its got what appears to be a 49 ford dash that has been gas welded in, doors gas welded shut, some kind of bracing around the tops of the doors inside and old fasteners for a canvas cover im presuming. Originally I intended to put the body on my banger powered sports coupe but the more I look.at it the more I feel it needs a flathead! Anyways heres a couple of pics
welcome aboard joe... don't see where you are from, but that ravenous rust eating its way up the body looks like MAINE's rust... we salt them roads...
LMAO. I'm guessing Upstate NY rust. Our salt is formulated to eat the paint, in order to get to the metal faster.
I see this kind of "Project" bodys come up on here often. My first thoughts are that I'm sorry you younger Guys have to start with That Kind of stuff. My second thought is that I'm glad there's some out there willing to do all that work. It's just sad knowing there was someone knowingly letting this Roadster sit and Rot. Good luck, what a challenge.
Im in Ontario, Canada. There's rusty 4 year old cars out here Thanks! It's the only way I could realistically get myself a roadster and keep my sports coupe.
Well a real roadster is a real roadster. Guys on here have started with a whole lot less including one of my projects. Keep us posted on your progress and plans.
Finding Old Hotrods has a vibe that adds a bigger level of interest as is was truly a period Hotrod at one time...It looks as if it had a roll bar...probably did drag duty at one time at one of the many strips dotting Ontario back in the day...Ontario had a rich history in go fast much like the west coast...hope you find out more about it...any evidence of channeling? A Flatty or Olds would be good candidates for the ressurection... By the way @Joebrownvw...Welcome to the Hamb...
It sure does! I would love to find some history as I have none whatsoever.. Yes it was definitely channeled, roll bar holes yes. Looks as though the top belt line and tank was black and the rest red
...In the top pic there seems to be evidence of possible class numbering and the second shows a filled cap and numerous finely cut access holes typical in many Hotrods that may help identify its roots... Are there Tailight holes out back? @Fast Elvis or @Jeff Norwell are pretty well versed historians of Ontario's proud Hotrod History...there are several other Ontario Hambers of age here that may also have a flashback that could help...fingers crossed... Elvis is just finalizing a Vintage Dragster project and has shared many vintage drag pics of many Hotrods...it might be worth a read and gander... Elvis's Thread below... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-original-purple-people-eater-dragster-1957.1139209/ Jeff may be a Roadmate and he at the very least knows many at the CC that has been a fixture in the Mississauga/Toronto Region for many many years... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/roadmates-car-club-50th-anniversary.129422/
I gues this fella decided against the deal .. Good score for you though .. did you get all the parts in the deal ? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...-on-buying-rotted-a-roadster-hot-rod.1216961/
...BM is that a class in racing...I'm not up on such things but those in the know may shed some light on that...
Am I mistaken? Wasn't this the same body posted by another Canadian Hamber a couple of months ago? I believe the consensus at that time was to walk away? I could be wrong ......Where there is a will there is a way Just read the links above. I knew it looked familiar.
