@CadMad, all that fantastic metal work is making my brain hurt. ITS JUST SO BRILLIANT! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Thanks guys. If it’s any consolation I struggle ironing a shirt or completing my tax return. I made a little transition piece to flow the dash into the door. A bit of a 53 Eldo inspired piece. Gives the dash a bit more drama and a good place to rest your hand when you aren’t tipping your hat to the ladies.
I’ve got to continually take in every variable that may affect the outcome. So put the soft top up to see if it all harmonised .... and it does. I had planned to use manual window mechs ( more traditional) but the configuration of the inner door structure and armrest position will probably preclude putting a winder handle. So I might have to go electric. I guess several factory , special order 41 Cadillac customs were built with hydraulic windows. Maybe I can use the nice Packard winder handles as the up down switch. Bugatti pic is inspiration.
Open Sesame. Door locks will operate off the side mirror stalk..... I once I make the mirror stalks. (With thanks to Rik Hoving for uploading the video.)
Fabber McGee...Heaps of room to get in and out. Door is well clear of the body. Given the wide sills and the cockpit nature of the design there is art to entering and alighting but once mastered it is second nature. Sometimes you have to suffer for your art.... but not this time.
Will the wiring for the power windows have to run inside of one of the door hinge bars .because of the unusual door opening configuration ?
Good point. If not in the bars, they can run in the hinge enclosure (the hinges will be covered) which will form part of the door trim. I should add, I'd say. Maybe Cadmad has other ideas.
Running a flexible cable will be easy. Getting everything operating is my primary agenda. Doing mock ups helps me get my head around all the functions and allowances to bring it together as one. Nature does this extraordinarily well. Everything adapts and cohabitates and becomes one organic form. What do they say??? “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts”.
I have to say it is impressive the way you have approached the doors and worked them to get to where you are with them. Very talented!
