I’m looking to get a 1007b but my core is too worn for a regrind. Is reds the only one to buy new? Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
Too bad. In the last couple of years since I purchased my flathead and while looking for parts I don’t think I have ever seen just a cam for sale on our version here (kijiji) of Craigs List. Seen plenty of engines and cranks. I had Pete regrind mine to a 1007B. Good luck.
Pete does great work. Did a regrind for my 8BA,,,,,looks awesome,,,,,good price as well,,,,quick turnaround . He’s here and on the Barn . He might even have some old cores to use for your engine,,,,,it would be worth a check . Tommy
DELTA CAMS!!!! Tacoma, Wash. Lots of guys use Delta cams, so do I. They ground me a 406 solid cam from a raw new Ford casting; I also sent them an old Navarro cam, the main journals were worn too far to spray them...So, they went into their stock of new old stock flathead cams, and ground me a Winfield SU-1R. Adjustable tappets are also available, but I had a new set of Johnsons. Delta cams are (were) the favorites of Patrick's Speed Shop, also.
Reds lists them for $385 What other profiles does @KiWinUS have other than L100. Tony is a great guy to deal with.
Schneider Cams (619) 297-0227 . Jerry Cantrell is the man all cams are custom ground for you application, unless you just have to have a catalogue
Checked and no cores. Placed my order for a new one from reds. Got plenty to keep me occupied in the meantime. Thanks for all the replies.
Of course after I posted this, today I see an ad for a cam for CAN$20. Lol! https://www.kijiji.ca/v-engines-and...ord-flathead-flywheel-and-camshaft/1550311117
Just got my 1007b delivered today. Should have the rest of my parts in by end of week to start the build up. I think I’ll be in the engine around 5k. Things add up fast lol Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
Sounds about right. Machine shop costs for me were CAN$2,4K for a short block and I supplied all the parts. I haven’t checked my parts spreadsheet in a while, but I think parts were about CAN$2.5K for a stk rebuild (no fancy alum heads, intakes, or new carbs - this is where costs skyrocket). In case you aren’t aware, I’ll just mention that I went with a regrind of my original cam because I had read several threads/posts about some serious quality issues of the new Isky cams.
As someone who's about to put a brand new Isky 400jr to use thats not what I wanted to hear but thanks for the heads up. I guess its better to see trouble coming haha
Yeh. Can’t recall the specifics, but I do remember at least for the 1007B there were some issues not sure about yours. I also went with the orig USA made Johnson adjustable lifters vs off shore stuff because of issues guys were having with insufficent hardness and consequently rapid wear/damage.
A few years back Delta cams was having problems. a few of us used Oregon Cam Grinding with execellent results...
