And here I am after 3 mos of having the roadster back, finally getting something done. Eng out ready for f/w. With all the moving and inactivity I can't find the f/w bolts. I did find a couple of keepers from a couple of summers ago.
The cleanup has been profitable for me ,I found a 271 Hi Po ford dist. Must be from 35 yrs ago when I had a 64 fairlane.
Past couple of mos have been hectic, not being able to get about.
New caregiver and some working time.
Starter coming.

48fordnut: What transmission crossmember is that by the way?

 

The black and white roadster may be from Mass. The chopped 1942-46 Ford coupe in the background looks like Magneto Magazine owner, Tony Dow's.

 

Trans cross member ,modified F1 with modified F1 Pedals.

 

Jim, I found and read your comments about the transmission preferences and I have one I'll give to you if you can use it.
It's an aluminum case 4 speed (4th OD) from an OT '79 Mustang V8. No gears "stripped or busted", but after 200K+miles it would drop out of 4th into neutral without warning and sometimes jumped out of 1st on launch. I replaced with a T5 which is a much better trans with a more favorable ratio spread.
It does have a tailshaft and housing quite a bit longer than the trans you show.
It will need some TLC, but it's yours if you want it.

There has been progress, just not reported. This winter has been harsh on this old man.

On to the progress. My frame was zed before I had the Tardel book. This meant once under the car a sub frame cross member had to be cut out and moved fwd. Pics show.
With a flat head, how many more leaves do I need to put in the spring pack?













Hopefully more progress near future.

 

For what its worth i have 8 leaves in mine, plus armstrong shocks (which do a surprising amount!). Changing the arch of your main leaf can do alot for you also.

The rotating blades have hit the project.

Bad situation last night with wife. she couldn't/wouldn't go to sleep. I did some reading and thinking. My zeed frame is completely wrong. The rear axle would be about 4- 6'' fwd of what it should be. I simply did not have the Tardel book, or enough experience to do this right. It shows how to do this in the book.

With my wife's condition, I'm going to step away from this for a while and take care of other things.
Thanks for all that have followed, with words and acts of encouragement.

 

Take a break. It will be there when you have the time. Come back rested with a big hammer and it will fall into place.

 

Maybe things will move along smoother now.

 

Certainly hope so. Got it out of the van on saw horses. That was a chore. Used a wagon for the back side of the frame.

Couple of pics from the shop. Backwoods Custom in Twin City Ga. Gave me an assist on the frame.
Tim the owner did a great job for me. I have since sold the original zeed frame. I need the body mount that goes under the cowl, the one that has 2 bolt holes thru,3 rivets to frame.Where you adjust the A pillar.

Trying to make more room. I have torn a work bench down and rebuilding the wall. Sheetrock is a whole nother game, esp for one person. Should be back on th car by the w/e. Going to drop the eng in and ck for clearances.
I checked on the price for a small argon tank for mig 200 plus tax. wow.

 

Almost a month. Joy is doing somewhat better , meds change.
Now for the good news. Shop is almost complete. .This was supposed to happen on Sat, put it off till today.
Eng is close to correct position, not hitting firewall and ft axle not moved. Pick up the gas bottle tomorrow.
Finally moving fwd. Thanks for all the moral support.

No, its a 8cm Merc block converted to the 59A crab dist, cam, gears .Etc..
I wish you were closer also Tim.
Just finished putting my new dropped Okie Joe axle together.

 

I have made some progress, even though it's not much. Changed frame and ft axle, mounts welded in, up in the air about trans ,63 ford 3 speed with a jeep top, or a fresh 39 trans. Tomorrow is the day for the 63 trans.
need opinion on the grill guard.

I like the stone guard. I run one on the oft as I drive on dirt/gravel roads at times. Helps with the rocks thrown up by other vehicles.

 

I have been off for a while. Joy took a turn for the worse in Aug 21. Piddle work on the car.
In Jan this year she passed. Both of us have been under Hospice care. Joy Passed on the 25 of Jan 23. There has been much to do concerning that situation.
My Daughter moved in with us in June of 22. She has been taking care of both of us.
I have congestive heart failure stage 4, which is the last stage.
I put out a call for help in March this year, as I wanted to get the roadster further along.
The eng turns very well with the starter.
So many things done and redone. Now it is right to my satisfaction. The car is a roller with brakes. Drive shaft cutting time.

A friend of my daughters started coming over to help on different thing. One of the HAMB members contacted me about what I needed, and we set up a time for him to be here. He came yesterday and boy did some work get done. Here are some pics of satisfied faces.
