I think it add extra un-sprung weight and rotating mass for no good reason, plus the rotor would need to be really small in diameter to hide the caliper.
That's actually a real thing - disc looking cover for rear brakes on base model modern cars Sent from my moto g(8) power using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It’s funny...one of the big advantages to disc brakes is their ability to dissipate heat much better than drums...put them in a drum and.... If you want discs just run them. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
It was raining and cold last night and I was bored and thought about this as a way of covering the disc which tend to get a little rusty looking after a while . On a fender car you don't see the disc but with a highboy its all out there . I'll just clean up the disc and chalk it all up to Covid boredom !
I felt the same way when I first saw the SoCal hidden disc setup about 20 years ago in Louisville. I think it was Pete Chapouris I was talking to who discussed the hot weather/mountain testing that was done with no heat related issues on an open wheeled roadster. I bought the kit and have never had any issues with the them, only very good trouble free braking in many thousands of miles in my 2800+ lb roadster.
Yep, drive it a lot to keep the rust off is a great way to treat your car. Good for the soul! Hoping we can all get 'em out more this year The old HAMB would have been torching you with fake Olds valve cover & dummy spots roasts...
Here's someone's attempt from about 10 years ago... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/fake-buick-brakes-that-stop.590076/
