  1. HA!
    Picking it up tomorrow (Wed.).
I’ve spent all of my money.
    Things may slow down. LOL

Got to get a plan for the order of things to do. Need to finish up the Hot Heads cover first, with the brakes and lines next. Progress pics when there is some.

  4. Not much progress.
    Replaced the steering column bushing.
Made up the accelerator and throttle linkage from a couple of old Ford pieces.
Made a little firewall bracket from some electrical conduit pieces since they're golden and not repro'd.
Found a truck only parking brake on here and got it in. Thanks Bill Wells and 64Pony! Had a couple but found out cars are different! Duh.
    Stuck the gauges in.
Started straightening the bent to hell trans tunnel, which is also 1/2" too long!
With that and the two big holes to fill, a repro piece might be smarter.
See you after Christmas! Hope you have a merry one.

  5. Not much happened with Christmas vacation and snow. Got home and couldn’t get up our road!

Worked on trans cover and decided it wasn't worth it. Ordered new repro piece.

I have moved these seats around for years, so I cleaned them up and tried 'em on for size. Perfect fit!
Second row from a conversion van. Leather, power, heated, FREE!
Yeah, they're not "trad" but are way more comfortable than the stock slab torture rack.
Real gold chainer stuff. Maybe SEMs dye them black.
    Start out with them?
    Whatta ya think?

There's a lot to be said for comfort.

  7. At 74, yes there is. The days of topless roadstering are over with.
I also have a beautiful black leather 40 coupe seat, but turned out it’s too wide for a truck.
The stock truck seat, although freshly upholstered, is just plain uncomfortable.
These will work for a while. Need to spend money on other things first.

Down the road, you might want to use the truck seat base and have it built up with foam and shaped by an experienced upholsterer. I had my coupe seat reupholstered over stock springs and padding and a fellow club member had his done with plywood base and foam on the stock frame. His is a better seat I think.

  9. Yep.
I’m saving the riser and the seat sections for later. There’s something weird with the back cushion, can’t figure out how the PO was going to mount it. It will take some fab to use it. Has a new, plain grey cover so it’s nothing to write home about, but it’s good for a base to use.
For now, four bolts and I have a driver seat.

  10. Got the carb linkage fab’d up from a couple different early Ford pieces. Now to paint the intake.

HA! You’ve driven yours! But thanks for the kind words, Obi Wan.

I still have to pull the engine and trans for paint and the new torque converter.
When it’s back in, I’m thinking some basic wiring, a lawn mower gas can and make some noise. Instant gratification, and you won’t need to get glasses, much less go blind. LOL

You’ll be in paint and have the AC on before I’m driving.

  15. Not much to write home about.
Torque converter came in so it's time to pull engine and trans. Hopefully tomorrow.

Fab'd up a 3 pc. cover plate to hold down insulation around pedals, since stock cover no longer fits.

Found one of these diminuitive early VW turn signals which fits early Ford column. 55-59 oval window VW bug.
Thanks to @Nealswheels in England for the tip!

  16. Another slow day, being Sunday.
Didn't quite like the seat position so I sectioned 1-1/2" out of the mounting brackets. Big difference in comfort and relation to the steering wheel and pedals. Plus it lowered my tall ass down in the cab for the cool cruzr profile. HA!

  17. New trans cover from Dennis Carpenter was on the porch, so I decided to put it in. Not so fast there, kemosabe!
Fits better than the beat to hell original, but STILL a half inch TOO LONG, WTF!!!
The factory stamped recess in the floor will have to be sliced and moved back!
The wonderful world of repro sheet metal! Whatta you expect for $100?
At least it's a purdy thang. Too bad the avocado deep shag carpet will cover it up.
Now quit your whining and get back to work!:p

Does the angle at the front match the toeboard? Maybe a relief cut at the bend.

    loudbang likes this.
  19. Yep. Angle matches good. The tail of the cover extends past the factory stamped relief by 1/2" but only over the tunnel part. Since the cover is straight across at the bottom, looks like a cut across the factory tunnel and move the factory relief back.
    OR (brainstorm)
Just flatten the turned edge on the new cover and let it lay flat on the factory tunnel. Easier and faster!
    OR
Just trim the cover back to match the stock tunnel an dolly over the lip. DUH.

  20. Got the sectioned seat risers finished except for paint. Seats in tomorrow hopefully.

    20210117_183251.jpg

Got the Carpenter trans tunnel sliced, diced and tweeked to fit the floor. Helped to jack the floor up some, it had drooped.

  22. Got the Desoto and trans pulled today for paint, torque converter, and final assembly of the HH pieces.
Then back in for GOOD (he said with fingers crossed).
Before it goes back in I need to get the firewall finished, and paint the drag link.
Thanks to Mike and Jim for making sure everything cleared!
Some days I think that I'm gettin' too old for this.:D

  25. Started on the Desoto today. Stripping old gasket and tape residue and getting ready for paint. Never been fired, still oil soaked, not a speck of dust.
Wish I had a bore scope for my phone, like to read the piston tops. Fingers crossed!

Please keep us posted on your painting process. I need to paint the Ford engine for my '48 Panel and want to learn from a pro!

  28. Hi Lee, afraid you’re looking to the wrong guy for paint guidance!
I’m indecisive at this point on what to do!
I would like some color other than the stock red, orange, blue etc., but if that’s the choice, Eastwood sells a two part epoxy in a spray can. Bandit Billy used the black on his Desoto and it is nice!
If I go some other color then I have to buy a quart plus activator. $$ for such a small job.
Right now it’s dealing with the old paint and masking.
If you want stock Ford blue, Eastwood has that in 2. part spray can.
Wish the old Imron was still available.
