I have what I beleieve is a 9" ford but not entirely sure but the bolt pattern is 5x4.25". I dident think they made a 9" with a bolt pattern other than 5x4.5" and 5x5.5". I have no idea what the rearend originally came from. Hoping I can just swap axles to a 5x4.5 bolt pattern. Has anyone seen this or have any idea what this could have came out of? 20210130_164647.jpeg 20210130_164625.jpeg 20210130_163538.jpeg 20210130_163754.jpeg

  2. First off that is not the way to measure wheel pattern. It is clearly a 9" and being it's in a Truck probably 5 on 5.5 pattern unless it's in an Econoline.

  3. I think T bird, Cougar from the late 80"s had that pattern.

Its not the original rear to the truck, its under a 65 gmc truck and I have some 5x4.5 wheels off a mustang that will not fit lug pattern is too big. Please dont bust my balls too bad ive always measured wheels that way and never ran into this issue...

They all had 5 on 4 1/4 but had IRS.
The Lincoln verse I had a 9" with 5 on 4 1/2 with disk breaks.

I also bought a set of wheels and the guy said they came off his mustang, I measured them the same way "wrong" and they turned out to be 5x4.75. Everything makes perfect sense now...

looking at the spacing of the other 4 I would say there is absolutely a 5th.no question about it

  13. Measure across, skipping one lug, add 1/4”. Works every time.

Don't worry about making a mistake........all of us have. At least you were smart enough to ask someone. There would be no need for this forum if we all knew everything.

  15. 1958 big Edsel and some Mercury cars had a 5 x 5 bolt pattern.

  16. I have found what is the easiest way for me to recognize a 9" rear. Look at the nuts holding the center chunk in. If you cant get to the bottom nut with a socket, it appears to be a 9" rear.

As noted above: measure across 2 studs, add about 1/4"

Mine came out of a mid 70's Lincoln Mark (?) with 5 on 5 and discs.

    Mercury from ‘55 up to ??? (somewhere in the ‘70s) were 5 x 5”
Edsel ‘58 Corsair and Citation were 5 x 5” (I have two of those axles)
Several Lincolns had 5 x 5” but I am ‘fuzzy’ on what year models, but have seen them from the ‘50s and into the ‘70s on various models. So, some of the later versions are 9” and/or 9 3/8”
